Speaking of wrecked ones..... Here is a good example from the collection of why the 'A' has safety glass.

Looks like this 1931 Roadster got rolled. The pic is from 1931 as well, so a practically new car.....

28/29 Roadster, good side/bad side. Note the 'good' side rear tire is missing?!?!

'Every Cup a Treat'.....

Re: Nice Town car photo Not being an A expert, what is that on the side of the car in the first pic? It looks like a modified carriage light to me. I also noticed how bare the front tires were. I guess they rode them until nothing was left. Then again they weren't traveling down a highway at 80mph either.

It looks like the cars are parked on sand/dirt/gravel/mud/whatever. I don't think the tread is bald - just covered in whatever substance they're parked on. Note the under side of the TCD side-mount well also is covered in it. |

and no whitewalls!!!
Fun fact; of the thousands of Dick Whittington pictures, 856 of them involve Model A's! Most of those are of course the insurance photos picturing accidents but also a lot of commercial vehicles, proud business owners wanting to showcase their fleet. The TCD's used those sidelights as standard equipment and different styles were used between 1930 and 1931. These were "off the shelf" lights that are not unique to the Ford TCD's. Here's a blow up of the tire tread. -Tim |
