GranCor Heads (Granatelli Corp)

Gentlemen...Is there any historical info available on GranCor heads in anyone's collection ? I have seen several singles offered for sale over the years but have never seen a "pair" and I would consider buying a pair for an 8BA if anyone has them. But ultimately I would like to further my research on Andy Granatellis' company and what all he was building back then for racing. I have seen a couple intakes of different styles as well. Can anyone help ? Thank You.

Gosh there was an article in Rodders Journal a few years ago that profiled a custom '34 Coupe built by Gil Ayala (I think) and owned by Andy Granatelli.

The car was absolutely beautiful. It was reduced in almost every dimension but it still maintained its excellent proportions. It was chopped, channeled and sectioned. It was even shortened and painted a very subdued pale pale green.

The point is that this Ford Coupe was equipped with Grancor equipment and the RJ article went into a little bit of the history of Grancor speed equipment. You might find this interesting.

When I get near my Rodders Journal collection I'll try to find the issue number for you.

Grancoe made a set of heads with a combustion chamber pattern after the Harley 45 flatheads, not sure how many sets he made. I used a setof these in a popup design on my Bonneville engine. They now set in a junk yard in yoba city calif.. Help your self, you can have the complete engine.

Ron, inquisitive (snoopy) minds would like to know the story on this Bonneville engine. Is this something you can share with us? (Or did I miss the story?)
Thanks!

there is a set of copper Grancore Heads for the 59A (if I remember correctly) on display at "Big Daddy" Don Garlits Museum of Drag Racing in Ocala, FL. I'm sure it you called and asked about them, they would be able to help you.

Hey Dusty there are actually two issues of The Rodders Journal that you might be interested in. Issue #18 features the '34 Ford coupe owned by the Granatelli's. I must correct myself and srate that it was actually Juaquin Arnett of the famed Bean Bandits car club that built the car. Issue #18 gives a great summary of that car and it's tenure under the ownership of the Granatelli brother's ownership. It must be noted that it was fully equipped with Grancor Flathead Ford speed equipment.

The next issue of TRJ that you would find interesting, maybe even more so, is the "Granatelli Story" in issue #28. This is a complete summary of the roots of the Granatelli brothers, their racing and business ventures.

Regrettably I cannot scan these articles for you as I am having trouble with my scanner. I hope these leads help you though kind sir.

I have a photo of their racing combustion chamber. It was also made for a pop-up piston. I used a Foed 3 3/4 stroke piston on a 4" cramk for this. Got 9:1 CR with prettygood breathing. This also had a cam made by Cam Techniques fir me. Hi Rise Offy Dual 2GC carbs. Sure would have liked to see it run.

Here's the Grancor Combustion chamber. Now if the plug was located in the transfer area, we'd have a perfect chamber Almost.

Thank you DD. I never knew much about the Granatelli's. Now I know a little. They said one of the places he sold GranCor parts was Gratiot Auto Supply in Detroit. That's where I bought my first speed part around 1964.
It was an Isky RPM 300 cam for my 292 Y-Block in a '55 Mercuy Montclair.
I'm sure the Granatelli parts were long gone by then.

I have a pair of 48 heads and a super dual style intake. Had a them for years and have plenty of opportunities to sell. Saving them for my 32 roadster.

The later heads seem to be quite a bit rarer. I see two pairs of early for every pair of later.
