B Carb and B Distributor
 

Not sure if it's my poor searching abilities or what. I am trying to find an exploded parts view for a Model B Carb and also the Distributor. Anyone have something I can print out?

Best results adapting a B carb to a model a is to use the model a manifold and drill the center runner to 1.25"

Thanks for the "real" parts blow out of a distributor. Vince Falter's diagrammatic version leaves out a couple of washers which may or may not be necessary when reassembling - depending on your collar 12195.

I'm working over a B distributor I just bought from Ebay. It very obviously sat out in the weather for probably YEARS before it was removed and placed on Ebay without even a second look.

I kind of suspected what I was getting into. Without the cap, the housing acts as a sort of "dishpan" and collects water just where the springs/weights are. Still, I'm not yet disassembled down to this level and from what I see I think its recoverable. Well, maybe not those springs - but springs are available from Renners.

The weak spots in the B distributor is the flyweight plate and small shaft galling.I found a real nice one,fitted it with modern points (Dave Renner does great work) and love the results,smooth power increases,spot on timing no matter what rpm,you cant do that by hand.

I have an excellent one that I have been meaning to rebuild - so thanks for the diagram. What parts are being reproduced for it (even though mine is complete I think)?

Mine came with a spare shaft but I can find nothing wrong with the one in the distributor now. I have a set of bushings and a reamer but everything feels tight so I will try it as it is. Just a good cleaning, lube job, new hardware, cam, points, and condenser.

Is this a better solution compared to running a Model B manifold?

On a model a it is,the choke rod lines up.With the b manifold it doesn't..

B points and condenser are getting to be unobtainium,converting to modern points is an option.

The B engine application has the carburetor - and its GAV - at a different angle relative to the Model A Body/driver's position.

Putting a Model B manifold on the Model A engine/body may result with difficulties in aligning the GAV and turning the GAV handle if it does align. Some use a "flex" device to compensate for the mis-match.

A intake manifold carburetor mounting holes are parallel to the intake flange face,the B is 7 degrees off line.Ford grey iron castings drill easy,an 1.25" high speed bit and a drill press,take a little time jigging the manifold square to the bit and let her rip..some claim a 10% increase in horsepower,pretty hard to feel on the 'seat of the pants' dyno we all have..

OK, I may be overthinking this but since this B distributor is going into a Model A, the wire that currently goes to the A distributor now connects to the terminal that sticks out outside of the housing that the condenser wire attaches to?

I use the high quality Model A condenser from Bratton's modified by elongating the hole in the tab at the end and then adding a short wire to connect to the distributer, see photos. I would try Renner's Corner (rennerscorner.com, (734) 428-8424) for the points but I don't know if they still have them.

I asked Renner's and they suggested Eckler's for points and condenser. That is what I did.

Modern points and condenser fit under the cap,left a nice burned up old one in the holder. 35k volt bosch coil,modern cap and wires.Fool proof..of all my problems ignition isn't one of them :).

Finished the distributor, installed it, set initial timing to 9 degrees. Starts better than ever! Sounds and runs great. Maybe go for a longer drive this week but water pump is making a little noise. Greased the front bearing. It is leakless but now noisy.
