Ideal 16" wheel

What is the ideal 16" wheel width for a '29 Tudor? The stock '35 wheel is 4" wide, but if I am buying a new reproduction wheel, I could get whatever I want, i.e., I don't need to stick with the rather narrow 4" width.

I would use original bent spoke Kelsey wheels but that may just be me. What kind of brakes are you using, you may need adapters?

Put your general location in your profile, it may pay off some day when you least expect it.

Steve -

I have Lincoln brakes and the kit I bought has the adapters. I'm thinking that I may be able to go wider than the stock 4" width, but how much wider I don't know. 4" is pretty narrow by today's standards.

How about a couple of pictures of your car? People could make a better recommendation if they saw the whole picture.

Bj

So the adapters are designed to let you run the early Ford (and Kelsey) wheels?

I would probably run 600-16 all around (if not stockers) but if you are into big and little tires I think this post on HAMB came out very well, although I would have used a 16 for the spare. Go to https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/...1111340/page-9 and look for post 249. Be sure to read the whole thread, he did more than just change the wheels. I took the liberty of copying his picture. Any chance you have a local machine shop that could widen 16 inch Ford wheels or Kelseys? A bit of trivia, you can put 600-16 tires into a stock fender well on a '30-'31 (and I assume a '29) by letting some of the air out. Remember to carry a tire pump. Sure like to see a picture of your car.

By the way, what kind of new reproduction wheel are you considering? Did you check them out in the archives (here and on HAMB)?

My rear rims are 5 1/2" wide to accommodate the 750x16 tires.

Chris,

What are your wheels and did you have a machine shop increase the width?

My 1935 16" rims were straightened and widened by

Ideal is what YOU like.
I have 8 inch on mine.

I have stock 35 wires on my tudor. I run 650 - 16s rear 600 front. Been that way for 10 years. The rim width really depends on what width tire you use.

On my roadster I have 7” rears and 4” front. You also need to consider back space if ordering custom wheels.

Re: Ideal 16" wheel

Width depends on stance and front height.

Rears are not as important, but if you don't get the fronts right, it looks like a turd.

I run 8/s and 6/s on my 28 pickup, but it is modified, so my tracks are different to stock.

I would guess a stock A would look good with 6 and 5 and lowered at front..
