Bearing ID
 

I have a set of conrod bearings that say "mc quay-norris 2975 .001". Can anyone help me ID them? Most reference I found online couldn't advice what they fit but said they were old. These are in a round box.

I have a book on bearings from the 1960's that covers back about 25 years. 2975 is not listed, but it would fall between 2966 which is for a British Motor Corporation vehicle and 2980 which is International Harvester Truck vehicle. Likely it is for either of the two listed or an orphan make with number in between in between.

You could try a NAPA Distributor. They are Federal Mogul engine bearing Distributors. They can give f.M the McQuay part number and F.M. should be able to interchange the part numbers and tell you what they fit. If not Try OlCar Bearings, George Bachleda, ph 1-910-693-3324, About 10-12 years ago I sent him all of my old F.M. catalogs and interchanges going back into the late forties. We used to do quite a bit of McQuay stock change overs.

my McQuay-Norris Engine Shaft & Bearing Spec Book Volume 1 Page 41 Line 16 lists that Part # 2975cp is for 1939-1942 220 8cyl ford rod bearing. Part # 2975cp = standard shaft size 2.1380/2.1390, housing bore 2.3570/2.3575, oil clearance .0010/.0040, max wall thickness at crown .1095, & the overall legnth 1.747. I'm not sure what the .001 on the end of yours means, but I would think that it is either .001 o/s on one of the diameters. My form 1073 Mc Quay-Norris Bearing Specification Guide book also list these same specs on page 1. Hope this helps. Bill

I know the deeling. I have about 70 bearing sets to ID. Some F.M., Mamouth and afew McQuay Norris. Afew books, but definately not enough to ID some of them. Rod

They used to make a lot of rod & main bearings to account for normal wear of the crank journals. Not so much anymore. A person could polish the journals and put .001" bearings in there with no grinding of the crank. It all depends on how smooth and straight the journals are.
