O.T. Biggest Pet Peeve In pre 1953... Mine.....
Bucket Seats in Pickup trucks.............LAME......... |
Re: O.T. Biggest Pet Peeve In pre 1953... GM tilt columns. It's one thing to buy an aftermarket "GM-styled" column, but to rip one right out of a van or a Firebird and shove it in a nice car is unforgivable.
There's a REALLY nice '40 coupe in my area. Sheridan blue with a red interior. Beautiful car EXCEPT for the 1980's Firebird column in it with the Firebird wheel still on it! You have brought great shame upon yourself, sir. |

The thing that kills me is the column key switch. That thing HAS to go. |

Re: O.T. Biggest Pet Peeve In pre 1953... Put me down with the GM column crowd. For that matter anything GM on a Ford.
Can someone tell me why they do it? What's wrong with a Ford unit. |
Re: O.T. Biggest Pet Peeve In pre 1953... How about "top chopping" original cars.....hard to put back with just a wrench.

Re: O.T. Biggest Pet Peeve In pre 1953... Personally, a part of me dies when I see a 350 Chevy in place of where a nice flatty used to be.

Re: O.T. Biggest Pet Peeve In pre 1953... Torque tube rear ends.
They may look cool and are traditional but they are just a pain in the neck to work on. An open drive shaft would have been one of Henry's better ideas. |
Re: O.T. Biggest Pet Peeve In pre 1953... Rat Rods- I am NOT talking about cars that are mechanically simplified, minimalist or even that lack chrome and shiny paint. I am talking about vehicles based upon useable parts that are needlessly butchered. The tasteless addition of 6 foot tall shifters sticking out of the roof, brass headboards for grills, sewer lids for wheels , etc, etc. I like creativity and simplification but attaching any piece of trash within reach to a vehicle is neither creative or functional. A pox on them!

Just wish they had pull out shafts and safety hubs (like later stuff) One of my gripes is late rear end where an early Ford one is ment to be. Obviously my opinion, Martin. |

Re: O.T. Biggest Pet Peeve In pre 1953... Digital gauges and radio display
Dials with needles seems soooo much more appropriate |
Re: O.T. Biggest Pet Peeve In pre 1953... I pretty much agree with all of the above. I had quite a few Chevs in my younger years, some of them pretty neat. (Wish I still had that 63 SS convert 409-425!) I NEVER put any Ford parts on them, and I worked in a Ford dealership in those years, so I don't understand this Chev everything stuff. We still have a bunch of Ford units, in spite of the "new stuff". I'm constantly reminded that I am "just a Ford guy", and that I'm not very smart because of it. Then comes arguments, cause I have been known to speak first, and think later. Oh well, it's a cross we carry to drive a better built car or truck.
Another thing I don't get is buying an old car/truck, and making the undercarriage and drivetrain like a new one. Just buy a new vehicle if that's what you want. |

I'm ok with bucket seats in a truck though. Got an old International with a pair of "captains chairs" that a previous owner installed and they are so comfortable. Plus the mice don't like them as much as the original seats. |

Re: O.T. Biggest Pet Peeve In pre 1953... Over head valve V8 engines. These cars/trucks were known as Ford V8's, because of the engine. And that engine is a flathead!

When I bought my F-1, a guy local to me bought another, nicer stock F-1 and ripped all the stock stuff off to put in a 454 and a bunch of other crap and painted it red with some lame 1980's lazer stripe. I bought a bunch of his stock stuff at a discount. Sometimes something has to die so another may live. |
