Coolant drama

We are away in our 33 for 3 weeks, it has been going great these last months,
But the day before we left I had the bright idea of dropping out the water and replacing it with the green coolant that we had just drained from our dragster,(cheapskate me).
At the first fuel stop I checked the rad and had to add about 8 litres, air lock I THOUGHT,next fuel stop another 8-10 litres, what the ****,
On slowing down for the next town saw the temp gauge go above 90c,
So I stopped and had a good look,no leaks overflow tube dry,
Then I thought back, the only thing changed was the coolant,
So I drained it out and filled it with plain water,(after cooling down)
Hey presto engine temp now back to normal 75 -80 C no increase on the hills and no water usage
I think that the coolant from the dragster might have had some methanol contamination (lots), and the cool and was about 5 yrs old.
Good fuel economy so far 220 klms on 34 litres.

Did it have glycol in it ? I only use class B stuff in older engines and where they wont freeze. Glycol will sure find a crack.. A lot water to go through though ... Where are you off to this time Lawrie?

Many years back I would would get polluted with alcohol. The result was overheating and excess leakage. So I can see that as a definite factor.:D:D

We left our overnight spot this morning, car ran great, but at a road works stop sign it stalled and tOok a good crank to restart, this was unusual, so later when looking for a good photo opportunity, stopped at one, nice pic,but car would not restart,
Damm, cranked for a while ,nothing,so got ready to look at the ign as no spark at the plugs,
Removed the coil ,little oil on it,just then a nice young couple pulled up and asked if we were OK, I told them no drama as I had spare stuff ready to fit,
He got out any way and introduced him self, I asked him what he did, A kangaroo harvester and mobile mechanic,A real Aussie I said,he said he had heard of these engines but never worked on one, without a problem he got into helping remove the dist,I got the spare one out from the tool box, while doing this he took the old dist assy overto his wife in the car and showed her how it worked, then came back and helped fit the spare, after fitting it and washing our. Hands he said he would not leave until hearing it run,one push on the starter and it ran like normal,he got his wife and kids to come over and see.
He then had a good look over as it was idling and said there was a water leak on the top hose,( after the drama with the coolant the other day I had not even done up the top rad hose clamp) so he fixed that and checked the others,
You hear so much negatives about young people, not this couple.
We then got going and the 33 is back running like it usually does.

not to break fb protocol and say something is nice. kinda like feral cats make good hats, like pythons in the everglades in florida would make great boots. But anyway... Really impressive you run a 33 with a trailer in tow in that environment. Great stuff. Dig the pictures also.

Curious about the mirrors your using. I worked in a RV dealership till economy put out of business in the late 70's. We had a mirror that was adjustable and would clamp in over the fender and around to the bottom. Is that something like you are using?

The roo,s are often in plague numbers, the meat is suposed to be very healthy and the hides make nice stuff.
The mirrors sit on a little angle bracket that slips down beside the glass and the strap clamps under the bottom of the door
Ted yes cross plays, and I have that pesky driveline vibe sorted, steering box fitted with a no’s RH gearset from 3rd gen, o ring on the sector housing and seal on the sector shaft ,Not a drop from it now and steers like new car, well nearly, lol
