Need to know the standard bore size of '28 Model A 4 Banger
 

Hey everyone! Newest member of the Ford Barn! I'm working on a friend's '28 Model A- engine was locked up so I removed the head and oil pan. Had a broken piston. He wants to get it running fast so I'm looking for a piston. This one measures 3.885" Cylinder bore size is 3.900" Is this stock? Also will need a head if anyone can help with that.

3.8750 is Standard bore. 3.9050 would be .030" oversized. Hone it a tad over the .005" and you should be close if the cylinder is round. Otherwise you need a .010 piston.

Brent is correct 3.8750 is std bore common piston over sizes today from most parts house are 0.020" 0.030 0.040" 0.060" 0.080" 0.100" 0.125"

Where are you located? It would help on the head issue.

Make sure you measure at the bottom of the cylinder ---the piston has to be fit to the smallest part of the bore

Thank you everyone for the warm welcomes! And I will take more measurements in the cylinder to make sure it is true. I am located in Southern Illinois- brought the head to a machine shop, but they said it had too many hairline cracks to repair..

They are plentiful and not expensive. I would suggest Berts in Denver for a used head that I'm sure would be in good shape. It would be a crap shoot from most other sources.

I have a head I took off to install a hi-comp head. Ran good. $40.00 plus shipping from Minnesota
