Anyone own a 1966-1967 Fairlane 500?

As I was recently searching for old Fords for sale online I noticed I don't see many 1966-1967 Fairlane 500, two door hardtops in XL's or GT's for sale?

Did many of these cars survive? Recently we discussed how many Mustangs of this era were built, were there that many less Fairlane 500 two door hardtops built? Where did they all go?

I have a 67 2 door hardtop that my dad bought new. About 50K original miles. Still looks like new, hasn't been out of the garage in 15 years. I love the 66-7 Fairlanes. The first car I bought when I got back from overseas was a 66 Fairlane XL 390/4 speed. I kept it about 15 years and then sold it. Wish I had kept it. I have owned 7 Fairlanes, the one I still have, a 67 GTA convertible, a 67 XL convertible, a standard 2 door hardtop, a 67 wagon, and I really regret selling a 67 GT 427 Tunnel Port (nom) 4speed SS legal car, sold it for pennies in the 80s when big blocks were not popular.
My favorite car I guess you might say. I see them for sale on craigslist in the Southeast sometimes. They are becoming more popular I think. But like a Mustang, they are unibody and prone to rust problems.

Had a 67 Cyclone GT, beautiful car and just the right size but sold. Now days I would do a 289 model. Old hands can't reach around to get past big blocks in unibodies.

You don't see them as often as you used too but I'm sure there are still a fair amount of them out there. A friend of mine had one back in the day. He got it cheap since he worked at the local Ford Garage. He took the 289 out and put a 351 Windsor in it. He put a cam in it and reworked the heads. The car was on the verge of dangerous since it had more power than the meat on the road would hold well. It likely could have used some slightly stronger springs in the front too.

That sounds like a fun car!:)

I had a 66 XL hardtop. 390 and 4 speed. That copper color that they had for a few years. Like this one. Only time I lost my license

Just like my first car. Mine came with the styled steel wheels. Love the copper tones. Mine had a black interior but the 2 tone emberglow/tan interior was a lot prettier in my opinion.

I'm still looking for a Fairlane based Ranchero from that group of years. I'll find one someday. Some of the late 66 models had the Fairlane front but all the 67 models had it.

That's it - mine was Emberglow, inside and out. Great car.

Seth, You said that you don't see many 1966-1967 Ford Fairlane Hardtops these days? That is because they are all in Australia! These pictures were taken at the All Ford Day in Queensland back in 2018. They have all been imported, as Ford Australia only offered these model Fairlanes as Sedans, and all were fitted with the front fenders and hoods from the same year Ford Falcons. However, they did get Twin Headlights, but not stacked like the USA models received.

Australia's equivalent of the 1966 and 1967 Ford Fairlanes. Ford Australia called the first model the ZA while the revised model was called the ZB. The ZA model was sold in 1967 and to early 1968 while the ZB model was sold in 1968 to early 1969 when the revised ZC model was introduced. That is why Australian cars are called by their Code Models rather than the Years, as new cars here are released at any time through the year, unlike in the USA where traditionally, new models are released in the final months of the preceding year. The Tail Lights, Hubcaps matched the corresponding years of the 1966 and 1967 models. Hope that this makes sense?

Nice looking Fairlanes. I don't know why but the 2 door hardtops appeal to me. I've never driven one but I can imagine a 390/4 speed car would be wild.

rotorwrench, there is a white one sitting under a carport along the east side of Lake Halbrook near Mineola TX. It has not moved as far as I can tell in at least 4-5 years. was still there in Jan. 2019. that is the last time I was able to visit my property there because of the coved 19 ,and the travel restrictions. I still have a small house there I need to sell. sold my shop and the 5 acres it was on. I was never able to catch anyone at home. It maybe that someone from Dallas owns it and is a vacation/ weekend getaway.

I have relatives in the Tyler area but I don't get up that way too often. Maybe I'll have an excuse soon.
