No Spark--Follow Up

Thanks to all who responded to my appeal for HELP!!!....

Here is what happened....

First I checked the points with a business card....only had .35 volts at arm...

Next I replaced the condenser with a new one....no change

Checked for spark between the points....none

Checked the spark between coil and ground....manually opening and closing points....no spark

Distributor was a new one out of the box....

Checked pop-out connection....screwed it in only a few turns...no change

So I then decided to take off the dash and check the ignition switch....with the dash plate hanging loose, I turned on the key and checked once more for spark....this time I had all kinds of spark....so upon further investigation I found that the black wire terminal on the rear of the ignition switch was sticking up just enough to make contact with the metal dash board....

THAT was my problem!!! Changed the orientation of the terminal and taped over it to insulate it just as a precaution....put everything back together and surprise….the engine started and ran....

So again MANY THANKS!!! to all of you who wrote with your suggestions on what to check!!!

I attached before and after photos so you could see what YOU have been "working on"...!!

Sure looks good, did you did the restoration work yourself?

So glad you figured it out and let us know the outcome. Thank you. The before photo looks like this roadster went through a fire? Great restoration!

Ralph, How long did it take to make that "silk purse out of a sow's ear?" She's a beauty. Columbiana, huh? I guess you made a few trips just down the road to Snyder's.

Re: No Spark--Follow Up

It took me 11 months of pretty much working full time on it (I'm retired). I am the "customer of the year" at Snyders for 2019!! (LOL)
