8BA Valve Guide Removal Asking for a friend who has a '53 8BA. He is unable to remove several stuck valve guides. Any advice or special tools needed to remove them?

Re: 8BA Valve Guide Removal Raise the valve by lifting on the retainer, give the top of the valve a rap and the keepers should fall out. Pull the valve out and pound the guide down.

Re: 8BA Valve Guide Removal Pretty sure I used a 1/2" or 9/16" deep socket with an extension on it gave them a little love, mine were frozen in both valves and guides, and about 8 hrs later I had all the valves and guides out. I could not get the guides to come down with the pickle fork.

Re: 8BA Valve Guide Removal Unless you are trying to keep the valves, springs, etc, I just cut the valves and springs up and drive the guides out.

Re: 8BA Valve Guide Removal This is an 8BA. The valves are not the mushroom type. Just use a spring compressor to remove the valve collets, keeper and spring. Pull the valve out, knock the guide down to release the horseshoe clip. then either pull the guide up or knock it down.
Severe butchery need only be reserved for the older mushroom type. That's my take on it, anyhow. Mart. |
