Oil pump and pan repair suggestions.
 

First let me confess, I've been a lurker till now. Even when I was a member years ago when I had a 52 f1 with a flathead. I love and appreciate this site. I've found that by searching I've been able to find answers already posted for almost all of my questions, and by reading the posts every day I've found answers to problems I didn't know I had. That being said here are the first 2 of my problems I have ideas on how to handle/repair but looking for suggestions on. I dropped my oil pan while doing an early 90 mandatory maintence/services. The pan had very little sludge and only 2 very small slivers of babitt, but I did find 2 other problems. 1. The drain plug hole has 3 cracks that 2 of them run through the threads. One is visible as a small crack on the exterior of the pan. My plan is to try to clean and try to solder the cracks and putting plug in with some thread sealant. 2. When the oil pump came out with the pan the casting where the locating pin is is broken. I did not find the pieces in the pan. The pin is still in the block, the pump fits back in with no twisting or lateral movement (wondering if previous owner installed it this way as it appears to be enough area left to work). Suggestions for possible repair appreciated

I would not mess with the pan or pump just get used replacements,they are plentyfull,but keep the pan someday it could be repaired.I would rebuild the pump when you switch out the casting.

Replacing both. Lucky me a guy I've been lucky enough to meet that lives a little more than a mile from me that deals in used model a parts has both parts I need. I'll be picking them tomorrow.

So you will know, the pan appears to be a late 31 with the hex bung. These pans are pretty rare and if you can make the repairs without replacing the bung, I would. You could replace the whole pan just as easily.

Thanks for the heads up, but yes I am aware of that. Although it's a 29 ccpu the engine date is January 32. Also has late 31 transmission.

I'm not sure that either item is a problem??? If the plug doesn't leak, don't worry about it. The gasket is below the drain plug, so it may be OK? The pump doesn't rotate, so it isn't a problem either.

What is a late 31 transmission? I thought the last change was Nov 1929?

You are correct. What I meant was that the transmission was later than what should be on my January 29 truck and I believe was changed when the January 32 block number engine was installed. Some times I make things appear as clear as mud.
