Re: Engine stand adapter I just bought the Flathead Motor stand. Excellent product.

Re: Engine stand adapter Just got my 59ab back from machine shop - ready to start assembly.
Mounted to my engine stand - 4 bolts at transmission mount. I wouldn't want to break anything while assembling and torquing. I see where the Stumpy adapter bolts to the side - manifold position. I can see that is better. Any concerns with assembly using the transmission position on the engine stand??? |

Re: Engine stand adapter Mr. Coopman, Thanks for posting that picture; I've heard of this happening many times, but this is the first time I've actually seen it. "A picture is worth a thousand words".
While we're on this subject, I have a '49 Olds Rocket that I have to work on soon. It has an even deeper bellhousing that a 59A, and is a lot heavier. I really hesitate to put this on a conventional stand. I know this is a better question for the H.A.M.B., but I'll start here anyway. Does anyone know how to properly mount these "Deep Bell" OHV engines on a stand? (This includes '51 to '53 hemi's , Packards, and a few others.) |
Re: Engine stand adapter The top pic is my friend's engine. It was a very highly prepared block and has been repaired, not easy though. The red block above is a different motor, and would be a lot more difficult to repair.

Re: Engine stand adapter I recently purchased one from House of Fab . It works great & was delivered quickly .
I highly recommend this unit . - FF |
Re: Engine stand adapter 2 Attachment(s)
I will try to post the pictures of an engine stand I built a few years ago, I just change the side mounts to correspond with the engine I'm working on. The last picture shows a C---Y engine in it with the transmission adapter hooked to it.

Re: Engine stand adapter 1 Attachment(s)
Scared of the single point of attachment, used 2 cheaply stands to make one with exhaust mounts. Works but plan on a more refined version in the near future

Re: Engine stand adapter My adaptor showed signs of sagging so I beefed it up somewhat. It will be shown in an upcoming video.
Attaching to a single side is ok as long as four attachment points are used. Mart. |
Re: Engine stand adapter Are the sides of a flathead really THAT MUCH stronger/thicker than the bell housing? Any cases of the weight of the engine pulling out the side of an engine? Inquiring minds want to know?

So far after mounting more than a couple hundred engines using the side exhaust bolt locations no failures what's so ever. If there was any possibility's the side mounting is weak I surly would have experienced a failure. Ronnieroadster |
Re: Engine stand adapter Ford were perfectly happy for the engine to be supported via the exhaust port bolt holes. I have never heard mention of there ever being a problem with this method.
I have witnessed an engine that did fail when being supported via the bellhousing bolt holes though. It happened to a friend of mine. Mart. |
