Replacing radiator hoses 21 stud engine
 

Finally got the 4 door sedan running (1935). Now I have some very old and cracked radiator hoses to replace.
This is my first time replacing these hoses. I took the right side hose off and I see there is a thermostat? inside the hose.

I would like to test it and make sure it is working. How is the best way to test, just place in a pot of boiling water?

Yup. Just don't let your wife see you with her favorite pot! There may be a number rating stamped somewhere on the stat, so if you have a candy thermometer, that would help pin it down. Seldom, though, will two stats have identical opening temps, so don't sweat the small stuff.

Looks like the clamp was too tight just snug it upYou,.Drop in luke warm water and bring the temp up that way. You want to see when it starts to open also.With thermometer in the water. Get a meat thermometer. Hopefully they will be good. That type sell for $75 to $100 per pair. Their pretty rare. ken ct i have a few prs.

I also meant to ask what the coolant capacity for the 21 stud engine is?

And also is it ok to use regular conventional green coolant when I refill?

That's the right spot for it. I agree that the clamp could be an issue because it has to be round enough to work correctly.

As for the temp, I used the thermometer I use for the grill, in the water with the 'stat in it. Learnt somethin.

I think capacity is 20 qts. I use the less toxic yellow coolant.

But would the regular conventional green coolant do any harm? Of course I'm mixing it for a 50/50 mix with Distilled water.
