Removing Instrument Cluster from Dash 1956

Has anyone removed the cluster off the dash of a 56 Ford?

Advice on how you did it with dash in car appreciated.

It's been since around 1978 since I took one out of a '56. But it seems like those had two studs along the top where you had to remove the nuts, then one stud on each side near the bottom of the cluster housing. There may also be something holding it in at each side of the steering column. Could be that you gotta remove that cover with the PRNDL on the front side and see if there's two screws behind it, or maybe two studs on the backside in that area.
Anyway, you gotta be able to get your head and arms up under the dash. I never had a problem, being of wiry build.
The '55 cluster is worse than the '56. Those have the four brackets facing straight down so when you remove the nuts, the brackets, washers and wiring clips all fall into the bottom of the dash. It's harder to put 'em all back than to take 'em off by far. Just put one back in my '55 car a month ago.

Your SM doesn't cover R&R?

When did you put those wheels on? They look good from an angle. Any chance of a side-shot?

If your going to spend any time under the dash, pull the front seat for lots of room to work

As Paul said, remove the front seat... It's still a pain in the a$$

Kultulz, put them on a year ago, car came with chrome spoke wheels, they looked nice too but I did not want to clean them!
They are American Classic rims, with the new type of chrome shot on in a vacuum with a nonrust guarantee of 5 years. The chrome appears smokey with a tint in color.

Will get a side shot in future, got reprimanded at a car show, " should have the stock rims on it" he said. I'm thinking I'm a teenager and I just got the family car and now it's time to put my spin on it. I'm so lucky!

Thanks for dash ideas guys, the wiring is the next project.
