60hp engine I ran across a 60hp block. No intake or heads, water pump housing has one motor mount broke off, no main caps or crank. I have the pistons out, will pull the valves next, and then cam. I don’t think it is worth trying to round up all the parts, but once the block is stripped I can have it checked out if someone is a 60hp rebuilder or someone interested in the block. I am open to any ideas

Re: 60hp engine Is it a "tin-side" or conventional block?

Re: 60hp engine 37-39 60hp blocks use the same size main brgs. 40 60hp blocks use a larger size main brgs. You may be able to identify the year of the block by the number on the rods as they are larger also. I think the rods are marked 92-XXXX. Without the main caps, the block would probably need to be line bored, if the correct caps could be located.

Re: 60hp engine Be sure to check the market before you spend too much time or money on it. I think the only market is for restoring boats and race cars (maybe motorcycles) and I therefore believe the market is very small.

Re: 60hp engine The best 60 HP engine is the 1940, it had many improvements. I think they were able to tell you. I know the crank is different.available in late 39, but someone that is more familiar with them should be
Gramps PS Isky makes a track cam that works pretty good on the street. Can't remember the number, it's been awhile. |
Re: 60hp engine I just sold a 1940 Ford V/8 60 this summer.
It had been professionally rebuilt, complete and ran good. Sold it for $1500, and the guy was going to install it in a small 50's Ford tractor. . |
Re: 60hp engine Damn, Lanny; next time you have one of those, call me!

Re: 60hp engine I remember as a kid the v8 60 was very popular in hydroplane racing. We have some old 8mm movies of them racing on Green Lake which is pretty much downtown Seattle. Can you imagine what the Seattle of today would think about the noise, smoke and Danger of a bunch of WW2 vets racing around in a circle in their beloved duck pond? Ain't gonna happen these days. And don't get me started on the Allison and RR boats on the big lake.

Hey Denny, Below is a link to my AD back in late winter of this year. Sold the trans to a member here on the 'Barn way out on the east coast. But I finally sold the engine to a guy down close to Iowa, that was going to put it in a old Ford tractor. Sold it on Craigslist. If I hear of anyone that has a good V/8 60, I will surly get a hold of you. https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=275845 . |
