7-tooth steering column/sector change and repair...
 

In September 1928, according to the Ford Service Bulletins Page 281, Ford made a change of the 7-tooth Steering Gear Housing and Column Assembly by changing the Steering Worm Sector and the Steering Gear Housing (It was probably done before September but in this case it does not matter).

A grease zerk was added to the Steering Gear Housing (now second generation) and the Steering Gear was revised (now second generation) which removed the drilled and angled hole for which oil was carried from the main reservor to the Sector Shaft bushings for which the sector shaft could be lubricated.

My question is just how hard or soft is the metal that makes up the Steering Gear?... as I need to revise the second generation Steering Gear into a first generation Steering Gear by drilling the angled hole within the gear itself and revise the shaft to lubricate the two sector bushings.

I would not have to do this if it was not for the fact that one of the "end" steering teeth had broken on the first generation Steering Gear.

Guten Abend Steve, I drilled the housing 3 weeks ago and cut threads for another oil filler nipple. The material is very easy to work with, it's like iron, not like steel.

I say don't mess with it. Go with F150.
