banjo rear end rebuild Anybody know of a shop or person (say, in a 2+ hour, hundred mile or two radius of North Central WV) that has the tools and experience that can rebuild a early '32 (same as late Model A?) rear end, please?
Thanks |

Re: banjo rear end rebuild My advice is to contact the local Model A Ford club in your area. There might be someone in the club that has a cottage industry rebuilding rear axle assemblies. I would avoid commercial shops unless they speak Model A, as they will likely overcharge and not do the job correctly. Rebuilding a Model A differential requires setting the bearing preloads and the backlash correctly.

Re: banjo rear end rebuild I'm about 20 minutes south of Morgantown. I have several projects already lined up and couldn't get to it till later toward spring, but if you're interested in discussing it give me a call at 304-864-4844. I'm a dairy farmer as my day job so am often outside, but leave a message and I'll get back to you (note that the message will answer as Colossians 2:16 Private Membership). You're most likely to catch me by the phone between 10-11 in the mornings.

Any other ideas, please? Thanks |
Re: banjo rear end rebuild I have done many rear axle rebuilds …. And have done work and a rear axles for some of the A guys in WV.. Jim layman, Albert ( since passed) , etc. I’m the one giving the rear axle seminar at this year Marc meet which puts me closer to you.
I’m trailering to the Marc tour in ohio in May. If you want to bring there and meet me maybe we can hook up…. Your call. Not brain surgery but there is a bit of science, process, and skill/ experience, and having proper tools to do them. There may be some guys in Pittsburg area that could help… Walk in the park for me. I’m in back of MAN restorer magazines. Drop me email. Larry shepard |

I have contacted several of the Model A clubs/chapters up there in Pittsburgh. The replys I got were 'vague' to "we send them out to St. Louis", to a guy up above Pittsburgh that has experience in A and T rear end rebuilds, but knows not much about the '32 and up rear end design, and has added a extra thousand dollars to the rebuild cost because, "It's a '32" Where is this Mercury Meet you are talking about out in Ohio? Thanks |
Re: banjo rear end rebuild Thanks for the comments and suggestions. I found a rebuilder up in PA about 3 1/2 hours from me.
