Horn rod spinning with wheel Hi,
I'm working on a '31 Vickie. I just finished rebuilding the steering box and am now putting the car back together. As far as I can tell I've done everything on the steps correctly but my trouble is that as I turn the wheel the light switch/horn rod moves with the wheel after hooked up to the light switch at the end of the steering box. So I'm in the Mechanics Handbook Vol 1 page 1-305 #7 insert horn rod and make sure it rotates freely. Good there. Then add the spring, switch spider and clip. Good there. And at this point the horn rod is still rotating freely. Then I skip ahead to pg 1-313 to put it in the car. 1-314 #13 place the light switch on the end of the column and lock in place with the wire. Good there. So now my light switch on the steering wheel does not rotate freely and goes into the left center and right position. Which is good. BUT if I turn the entire wheel left and the right the friction from the steering wheel is turning the light switch to its stops on either side. What am I missing? Thanks, Patrick My grandpa restored this car in '71. I learned how to drive in this car about 15 years ago and inherited it about 4 years ago. My grandpa passed last January. Getting tons of help from the local Model A Club I joined but we haven't been meeting because of Covid. |
Re: Horn rod spinning with wheel And trolling google right after I posted looks like I might be missing the light switch rod bushing.... And I just pulled the horn rod out and its definitely what I'm missing...

Re: Horn rod spinning with wheel Patrick
Welcome to Victoria ownership. Missing that bushing will create the problem you are having. 2 other things to consider doing. 1) Join the International Model A Ford Victoria Association. (https://www.victoriaassociation.org/) and the other is purchasing the new Victoria Book from Model A Ford Club of America. Also, it helps if you put your location under your name. |
Re: Horn rod spinning with wheel Thanks!
