Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour Vic, I love the pics. Who's '46 coupe is that? It's a sharp car & I like the color. Dad & I have my grandpa's '46 business coupe to freshen up some day yet.

Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour Seth, Thanks, the '46 belongs to my friend Steve; it is a sharp looking and excellent running car. Vic

Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour Today we had a full house in the garage:D, Mike, Don, John, Cliff and Hall all came over to play. First we chased the threads and removed the remnants of the cotter pin on one of the axles on the Columbia:) then we disassembled the gears, etc. on the original main shaft and fitted everything onto the main shaft I got last week.

Next week we'll put the transmission back together and hopefully reinstall it in the Zephyr. |
Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour I'm confused. Are you guys meeting weekly for pizza and just working on old cars to work up an appetite?!?
Just kidding. Keep up the good work and please keep us posted. Thanks, Al |
Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour Al, in order to maintain our stamina, to work on Flatheads,:) we need sustenance and Pepperoni Pizza covers most (if not all) of the necessary food groups...:D Hopefully next weeks pizza outing will be of a celebratory nature, providing we are able to reassemble and install the transmission in the Zephyr.
|
Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour Please save all the round useless bits for me. I can use them on my trellis that I'm making out of old car parts.:D
|
Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour Denise, I never throw any old car parts away... Next time you're down this way you'll have to take some of the "useless" stuff and repurpose it.
|
Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour The additional parts we need to finish rebuilding the '39 Zephyr transmission arrived from Mac Van Pelts the other day:) so, tomorrow we'll hopefully get everything back together and install the transmission. I just ordered two NOS "dog bones", for the rear shocks (that I got from Bill Wzorek), they should be here in a few days, that'll give me time to clean up the torque tube, finish painting the Columbia, etc. Did somebody say Pizza???:D

Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour Hope the pizza turns out well, oh and the '39 LZ too! Keep the pictures coming.

Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour Thanks Seth, I'll make sure to snap some photos of what I hope will be our progress tomorrow. Vic

Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour Today was the day to rebuild the ’39 Zephyr transmission. All the necessary parts had arrived (thanks to Mac Van Pelt),:)
http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n...012/001-12.jpg Mike and Cliff got to my house just around 11:00am, I had been degreasing the undercarriage of the Zephyr :(and I was glad to come out from under it to help with the transmission. Here are a few photos of the assembly.:D http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n...012/002-11.jpg http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n...012/003-10.jpg http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n...2012/004-7.jpg http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n...2012/005-6.jpg http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n...2012/007-3.jpg http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n...2012/008-3.jpg Apparently, no one makes a gasket for the shift cover on the ’38 & “39 Zephyr so we made our own out of a file folder…;) http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n...2012/009-3.jpg http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n...2012/010-3.jpg It was getting close to 3:00pm and both Mike and Cliff had other commitments so, we went without Pizza… I was hoping to have the Zephyr back on the road in time for the “Barner’s Bash” but I won’t have time to play in the garage over the next few weekends, maybe at tech session on Sunday, March 18th before the BBQ… |
Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour Today my lunch time project was to paint the Columbia:). I got half of it done,:( (it's too heavy) for me to try and flip it over by myself while trying to place a packing blanket between it and the castor so as not to mess up any of the painted areas. I also got a few other parts cleaned, painted and ready for reassembly.

Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour A little extra time for that paint to dry is a good thing. I love an excuse you can pass off as good planning.
