Yep, I'll bring my work clothes too so I can help out.
Looking forward to seeing you boys again.

Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour

A Shocking Revelation:eek:.
While disassembling the rear of the ’39 LZ I took a close look at the original “knee action” shocks and determined that they need to be rebuilt. A quick call to Bill Wzorek and I had a solution to the problem. As luck would have it, Bill had a pair of Zephyr rear shocks in stock so, they are on their way:D. If you need original “knee action” shocks rebuilt I would give Bill a call or contact him through the web sites. I don’t want to post his phone number without asking first but, if any of you want it, send me a pm and I’ll give it to you.
Thanks Bill, I really appreciate your help.
Vic

So about what time do folks start showing up AND is one of those folks going to be your local car pal Henry Floored by chance?

They usually start rollin' in around 9:30 to 10:00am and Mike (Henry Floored) will be here.

Tim, I know how you feel, I like them all, and the Jag has been in my family from '68 when my dad bought it new.

Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour

Vic,
I've always found it easier to pull the engine then the transmission. How much time does it save to drop the rear?

Vic Piano 01-10-2012 09:11 PM

Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour

It's a double edged sward in this case, I have a Columbia rear that I want to install in the Zephyr so, I’m hoping to do that once we get the transmission problem solved. Also, the Zephyr is a unit-body construction meaning that the inner fenders are welded to the cowl and frame as is the body, making it difficult, to say the least, to pull the engine. We pulled the radiator to have it repaired and it took three of us to jockey it out and back in again. In this case, I think pulling the rear is the lesser of two evils.

Ok.I understand. It's very different then the Ford.

Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour

Our '39 Ford is completely different from the '39 Lincoln Zephyr in terms of construction. I never knew how the zephyr was built until I got this one.

I've had the pleasure:rolleyes: of removing Ford rears a number of times over the years and believe me, getting it apart and ready for removal while it is up on the lift is a lot easier, and more fun,:D than working under the car laying on the floor.:( When the rear is ready to come out, we'll drop the lift so we can slide the rear out from under the car.

Vic, would you pass the word to your car pals that will be there on Saturday that I'm looking for old races, bearing, gears, flexplates, metal fan blades, anything round. I'm also interested in old flathead heads. Nothing good, I'm looking at scraps bits, pieces and parts to make yard art. I've been a welding fool lately. Thanks bud!

Denise, I've got a garage full of Flathead "yard art" and you are welcome to dig through it. I'll also let the guys know that you are on the hunt for goodies. See you Saturday. Vic

I like the Jag even more after hearing the back story. That's awesome! Enjoy.
