Clutch and brake bumper

Dumb question. The rubber bumpers on the clutch and brake rods -- aren't the rods supposed to move through them? In other words shouldn't they be affixed to the firewall somehow? Or do they move in and out with the rods (that's what mine do, seems odd).

On my '37 they are not affixed to the firewall. They are '39 rods,& move in & out w/the rods.

In '41, they move with the pedals.

Thanks, I knew you all would have the answer. It seems wonky because the clutch bumper goes down and squishes kind of sideways against the frame rail.

Can you trim the bumper? Or glue it to floor board with Contac cement?

On my '390 Pickup, I seem to have engine mount-like biscuits mounts to the angled steel floor board. Also a sheet of foam.

That's what I was thinking. Or the black weatherstrip adhesive.

The clutch pedal bumper should be narrower on one side, to just clear the frame rail. Bob Drake catalog has a good picture of it:https://bobdrake.com/products/1939-4...f298bf9b&_ss=r

They do occasionally require a bit of trimming. Especially if the bushings are badly worn in the arms.
