Dual exhaust system 1948 ford with headers

I have been away from this kind of work for awhile.
The car is a 1948 ford that is a stock chassis with a mild hopped up 59 AB. Has reds headers.

What is a current price for shops to charge for a complete dual exhaust system installed?

I have gotten estimates all over the place from $500 to $2000 .

Would be 1-3/4 pipe with short glass pack mufflers. Custom bend and welded.

I think all shops are going to be different. It depends on their reputation and quality of work. I went to two places near me a while back. One was well know and the other was a hole in the wall Ma and Pa shop. I just wanted a single pipe on my falcon with the 170 L6. The well known shop quoted me around $500 and the Ma and Pa quoted $100. I went with the cheaper one. They did a good job.
But it might depend on the person you talk to also. I went to another shop a few month ago to ask about getting my exhaust done for my 41. The "apprentice" was there and qouted $120 for a single and $180 for a dual. I went back a few weeks ago and the owner was there. I was talking to the guy who quoted me before, then the owner walks out. Looks at my car and looks at me, then says "$500".
Just do your research.

Go to a local cruise, look around, talk to someone with custom pipes and ask where they had it done and how much. FWIW

If it get's too expensive, you might consider doing it yourself. I did the entire exhaust system on a '36 Ford with Fenton headers about 20 years using one of these pipe benders, a couple of 90 degree bends, some exhaust tube, and my welder. At that time, I had less than $300 in the bender and pipes and owned the bender when I was done. I made the job a lot more difficult for myself by using 2" pipes all the way back instead of 1 3/4". After all I had a "big" engine; (276ci).;)

If you call Red's again they will sell you everything and you can install it yourself.

My buddy and I fitted a set of Reds duals to my 41. Fit in nicely with few dramas, however I discovered along the way that my engine mount biscuits needed replacing.

Reds is a good DIY option, but have plenty of ibuprofen on hand as well.

I went with Red's headers on my '48 and used their head pipes after striking out with Fentons. The drivers side pipe didn't quite clear the hole in the X frame, but nothing a little work with a die grinder couldn't resolve. I went with Flowmaster 50 series mufflers because I didn't want it to be loud all the time. I had hoped to have a local shop make me up tailpipes that exited under the rear bumper, but they said there was no way to do that given my brake plumbing. We ended up settling on subtle side pipes that exit in front of the tire. Lots of bends, even for those. About 3 hours of work on their part. $230 for the custom pipes, hangers, etc.

The quality of the installation of dual exhaust is heavily dependent on the skill of the operator of the pipe bender. Getting around the pedals requires making a left side head pipe to snake through very limited space. In my experience, most kits will not just "bolt on". We use a local shop that has plenty of skill and experience.

Those are the emergency brake cables that run along the bottom of the X frame.

I took my 47 in today for an estimate, I've decided to keep the OEM exhaust manifolds and not use headers, with two inch pipe no mufflers, I'm going with straight pipes for now.
$261.00
