Easy Oil Pan Baffel Removel

1 Attachment(s)
Thought I would share how I removed the baffle from my oil pan after I finally got if off , for those who haven't tried this yet . . I used my slide hammer with the small hook , with a rubber cap to protect the baffle , hooked it in the small hole side of the baffle , and it popped out on the second slide .

Good idea .

Hold the oil pan bottom side up and drop it on the garage floor. The baffle will pop right out.

I use the wooden handle of a hammer. I slip the wood end into the opening for the pump and with the flip of a wrist it is out. A wooden baseball bat works even better.

I do like Tom does only I use a crowbar. They come out easily so no damage is done.

I do like DNapp but I do it on the lawn. Don't want to scratch my pan :-)

For me , it is so I can "COMPLETELY" clean the pan .

Most of the sludge is under the dipper tray, and it needs to be scraped out.

you know how most things fall apart when you drop them!

I do the turn upside down drop thing too but with something on the floor for the gunk to splatter on. :)

Above all, make sure you respect those very sharp edges of the stamping. You don't need a giant cut.

Re: Easy Oil Pan Baffel Removel

I agree with post number 12 . The oil pan that I dropped on the lawn killed the grass where the gunk splattered . It was quite a while before the grass returned to cover the bare spot .

Aretino- this is not meant to be a Smart A** answer but the dipper pan goes back in.
It is for clean out only. Leaving it out would deep-six the engine in short work.

Thanks, cleaning makes sense.

Good point. I didn't even think about how "removal" could have been taken both ways.

I read once where someone forgot to reinstall the dip tray during their engine rebuild.

Re: Easy Oil Pan Baffel Removel

Place the pan in a large plastic garbage bag before you drop it. Splatter is contained......

Re: Easy Oil Pan Baffel Removel

Baseball bat or wood 2x3 by far easiest and safest and fast. Because it not only pulls up on baffle but pushes out on side of oil pan, releasing the lock in the grooves.

Re: Easy Oil Pan Baffel Removel

That is a clever idea. I've always done it with a board and a big C-Clamp. It allows me to crank it out slowly and gently....no oil splatter...no dents...

Nice to know that there are lots of ways to do it.
