How to replace the intake manifold

Due to a crack in the old one, I need to replace the intake manifold. What is the best way to do it? I am planning to renew the gaskets. What is the best gasket to order? Do I need to buy Model A Gland Rings and Stud Washers?

Make sure that the exhaust manifold and the new intake manifold are the same thickness. Often the manifolds are planed down and a new part added will not line up. I suggest that you plane the manifolds as a set when you change one. They should be planed when they are bolted together.

I always use the copper gasket and steel port rings.

Use the rings if your block has been machined to accept them.

THe rings were there to hold the gaskets in place while you wrestled the other parts into position. With invention of one=piece gasket they were not needed.

I recommend LOOSELY bolting intake and exhaust together until after they are mounted. Let them each adjust and seat separately. Use the heavy cupped washers with the cupped (concave) sides toward the block, with the nuts to be tightened against the rounded sides. This allows the manifolds to seat independently. The curvature allows for thermal expansion and contraction.

I'm on my fourth exhaust gasket set, second manifold set. I get the copper gaskets. This is the first time I have used the gland rings and they have made a big difference on my setup.

Thanks everybody for the help! I have decided to renew both intake- and exhaust manifold including gaskets, washers and nuts.
