old spark plugs

I came across a bag of unused Champion C-4 spark plugs at a yard sale a while back. It was an estate sale and the owner had owned a Ford garage for many years. Could these plugs be used in a Model A engine or are they fishing sinkers? Thanks for your thought, Bill

No problemo, Bill, just send that bag of C-4 plugs to me as I will use them. Will be driving my Model A to the coast for some surf fishing.

Re: old spark plugs

The Champion C 4 spark plug was the plug introduced for the 1932 Ford V8 engine. It is a close match in heat range for the Model A and Model B, will fit and will give satisfactory service to the A and B engine. By the way the 1933 and later Ford V8 engines used a different spark plug and the C 4 will not fit or work with them.

I had never heard that before. If that is the case, what was the original plug for the Model A?

According to the Judging Standards page 2-12 revised 2011, the original plug was a Champion 3X..with the "round top" number 3.....the picture shows one with the center section loosened....

Sorry, I got myself mixed up. Of course the 3X was the original. Thank you for your polite and patient answer.

Thanks everyone. Seems like these plugs should go to someone with a V8 32 ford engine.

Bill, Do not limit your potential market to the 32 Ford V8. The C4 was probably the most common 7/8-18 plug in use in the 1920's and early 1930's. High end cars like Auburn, Cadillac and Packard to Ford competitors like Chev, Dodge and Plymouth all used them. I saw this info in an old pamphlet put out by Champion.

C-4 plugs work great in the model a engine, and usually better than modern replacement plugs.
