Barrett Jackson Scottsdale

A model a sedan (might have been a fordor) sold yesterday on Barrett Jackson and they kept referring to it as a "Country Sedan". To the best of my recollection Ford didn't use that label until the station wagons of the '50's ?

I only watched maybe 90 minutes of the whole week and saw this. You are correct Ford never called it a Country Sedan.

I also saw a AA Mailtruck and a AA fifth wheel tanker. I was impressed in that the commentators knew to say "Double A". You could hear the Auction barker say "A-A" though.

It was a beautiful AA Mail Truck. I think it brought about 20K. Couldn't restore it for that.

I know nothing about 'A's, but I too thought it was odd that they kept calling it a country sedan. Looked like fordor to me, and it looked very nice and brought a good price. The AA semi with tanker sold for less than 30k, that looked to me like a steal, then again how many people have a garage to keep something like that in?

I just happened to be flipping through the channel when I saw a 1931 SW Town Sedan (model 160B) rolling off - I didn't catch the selling price though.

If I remember correctly, it sold for $20,000.

FWIW, I sold a nicely restored 160B a couple of years ago for $19,000.

I caught the "country sedan" too and was muttering about the misnomer so much the wife finally had enough and left the room. LOL
Also saw a beautiful Red GTO Pushed to the bottom of the ramp after bringing at least 35,000.
Suddenly the steering wheel no longer worked and they cut to the stage again. Something snapped (likely the rag joint) and that expensive purchase would not steer anymore.
I think I would be looking for a discount after that.

Re: Barrett Jackson Scottsdale

I used to love watching the BJ Scottsdale auction, as it had the best of the best antiques and classics. But the type of buyer willing and able to spend that kind of money has changed. Example: a beautiful, perfect restoration of a '57 Chevy convertible sold for less than the next car to cross the block, which was a '57 hardtop resto-mod. Now I get that guys like the style of an old car (particularly since new car styling is so bland) but they prefer modern, reliable mechanicals. But IMHO, that type of car guy is a poseur, and he is missing half the joy of driving a real antique or classic. Because of this, 90 percent of the BJ catalog nowadays is resto-mods, and I have no interest in watching 8 hours of make believe cars being sold to rich poseurs.

Unless it’s a “blowhard”car they don’t seem to be very knowledgeable about pre war cars . I have seen some nice cars sell for less than it would take to restore them.

last weeks B-J should have been billed as the C10 & Camaro sale. Seems like every other vehicle was one or the other. Earlier in the week looking from a TV screen some of the vehicles looked like they were selling for less than you could restore one, but not seeing them up close and personal, the quality could not be determined. Friday & Saturday prices on some of them were through the roof. My dad had a saying, " It is not how much money you make, it is how much you spend" I just wish that some time in the future when my son or grand kids sell my five Model As, people with deep pockets show up like at a B-J sale.

This. I built a garage if you can call it that (100'x 200'), for a car collector. His annual trip was to Vegas to buy cars at BJ for this exact reason.
