My mag arrived today all the way from sunny California to cool overcast Suffolk County England . Just wondered how many weeks I am behind you in USA . Even though it is clearly marked" Do not bend" the mailman skilfully stuffed it through the door letter flap GOOD GRIEF !!! .Stayed flat for 6000 miles but failed at the last fence but luckily no tears . Saw my name in print 40 year member got a nice letter from headquarters with the enamel pin not made in China which a previous one was .

BTW, I just got a 30 Tudor running that had not ran since 1963, and yes, I DID thoroughly clean out the oil pan and valve chest. People DO pay attention to what you say. Thanks.

John, congratulations on 40 years.

I used to have a mail slot on the front of my house and my Model A magazines got folded all the time.

I finally removed the slot and succoed over the hole and drywalled the inside.

I then built a box that fits on the front porch. No more bent magazines.

Neil's alternative Mail Box - to ensure that his Magazines don't get folded as they do when they get put in the normal Mail Box.

Hi Mercman from OZ Your avatar looks like a 1956 Mercury Montclair . This was a very high end car in my home town of Cape Town . You had to be a real dude to own one of these !!! . In the very early sixties my ship was berthed in Matadi up the Congo river .The Congo had gained independence from Belgium in 1960 the Belgian nationals left the country en masse. It was a hurried exit and they drove to the dock with all they could carry to be evacuated by Belgian ships . Their vehicles were left at the dockside mostly Mercedes farm trucks and some passenger cars . One was a 1956 Mercury Montclair the same colour combo as your avatar . The car was unlocked and would have been an easy roller . We were homeward bound with space on deck so I begged the captain that we could easily "liberate" it . We had all the lifting gear on board . The plan was to bring it aboard during darkness just before we sailed and cover it with a tarp . The dockside security would not have cared the car had not moved in a couple of years and there was no chance the owner would ever return . My captain sadly point blank refused it would be theft etc etc I said we could maybe find the owner or I would keep it . So we sailed and left it sitting on the dock facing a bleak future .

Hi John, My Avatar is a 1956 Mercury Monterey 2 Door Hardtop, not the up-market Montclair. It was imported from California to Australia in the late Eighties. It is a great car.

WOW a real cool car .way prettier than a tri chevy . Looks just the same as the one I left to its fate in Darkest Africa Same colour combination .

Hi Cape Codder

Very remiss of me to skip actual weather here in Suffolk County England . Right now the leaves are falling off my North American red oak in my garden . It is over 100 years old and no doubt planted when my house was built The Victorians imported trees from the New World also the grey squirrel which upset the native red squirrel as the greys carried squirrel pox which was fatal to the reds . Right now I am getting the body fitted to the frame of a 1930 standard roadster .The repro dash panel says "made in Germany " and amazingly all four screws fit !!! not choice of two or maybe 3 with Far Eastern products .

John in cool Autumnal ( Fall) high pressure dull with no rain weather Maybe out in the country lanes tomorrow in my slow but sure (small bore engine and 4.55 rear end) 1928 multidisc clutch phaeton .

John - Much more like you in #13 post! Even a little more descriptive than usual!
