1927 Coupe Trunk Deck Lid

I was putting on the cross bar of my trunk deck lid to latch to and noticed that the deck lid was bowed in the center by the key hole. As I took a step back to get a better look at it, I can see a good bow right smack in the center.

How can I get this straight with out ruining it?

The '26/'27 trunk lid is supposed to be bowed at the top and bottom. The panel below the trunk lid is bowed to match the trunk. If you have a straight lower panel, something is not right. If you try to straighten the lower edge of the trunk lid it will widen the overall width of the lid creating more problems. Since you are building non stock body anyway, check with guys on the HAMB, they might have more experience with this. Good luck.

Really? I never knew this. All of the pictures that I have seen seem to be straight. Good thing that I never tried to straighten it. Thank you, for the answer.

Weeellllll. Got the curvature probelm fixed. I place a curve in trunk lid brace and it fits snug as a bug in a rug. Looks alot better with the arch in it.

Glad it worked out for you. The lid and panel below the lid are often bent out of shape by the spare tire and mounting bracket getting hit over the years. Lots of fun trying to straighten them.

Thanks, t42, I noticed this aspect. I don't think that I'll be replacing the spare tire holder. I might weld a brace in place of that. Maybe flat iron with a bow in it. I think it looks a lot better with the shape in it.

Now I need to adjust the deck lid. I guess that I need to use the hinge bolts to adjust the lid.
