49 ford car dash

This winter I'm planning on rewiring the dash. Is it a big job to take the dash out ???, jack.

It isn't as bad as a person might think. I've not worked as much on the shoe boxes but the Mercury cars only have a large bolt on each side and the screws under the windshield garnish mouldings that hold it in place. The steering column would likely have to be moved out of the way but that isn't bad either if it has floor plates like the Mercs. Sometimes the steering gear box mount bolts can be loosened with several removed and it should be free to hinge down a bit. The steering linkage migh have to be disconnected from the box but that's not too bad either. Cables, ducts & wiring all have to be disconnected but there should be terminals for that. Heater components may also have to be removed.

This is the way they were installed so that's how they come out as a general rule. It was the only way I could rewire my old Mercs and it allowed me to do a lot of other repairs under there at the same time.
