Re: 1932 4 cyl muffler and down plpe Hi Brian. My help, because I don't know where to find these parts, would be: Let us know if you're going for a restoration/point car, or not.

Re: 1932 4 cyl muffler and down plpe I hear you. I bought two of these years ago for my 32 Model B. Both are different angles. Neither is right; one isn't even close. Can't remember where I got them. I'm making one work by using some flexible exhaust pipe as a connector to the muffler--maybe temporarily until I can drive it to a muffler shop. I also have the tail pipe parts, and they are correct. Not sure why this is so hard.

Re: 1932 4 cyl muffler and down plpe Last I knew the down pipe was available, but the muffler is not. I found a tractor muffler for mine that is similar to what is on there. I have been told the v-8 mufflers work.

Re: 1932 4 cyl muffler and down plpe If you're interested, I can send a copy of the original factory blueprint to you
giving exact details concerning the inlet pipe coming off of the manifold. Originally the Model B inlet pipe and domed end muffler were welded together as a unit and referred to as the "muffler assembly". You then can find a local muffler shop in your area that should have the ability to bend a correctly shaped inlet pipe for you. For years I ran a Burton Waldron inlet pipe and V-8 muffler on my 32 5win and am in the middle of building a correct original exhaust for my B. Peter |

Re: 1932 4 cyl muffler and down plpe My thoughts are their aren't that many "original" 32-34's around still running the 4 cyl, unlike the Model A's. It might be possible to "modify" an A muffler's pipe to mate with the B motor??

1931 flamingo,
More than you might think. You might be able to modify a Model A pipe to fit a '33-'34 four, which share what is basically the same exhaust manifold, but the differences between the A and B exhaust manifolds and muffler inlet pipes are significantly greater. The photo below depicts a weathered NOS '32-only four-cylinder muffler and inlet pipe assembly for 106" wheelbase chassis. |

Maybe helpful to know that a 'muffler shop' has a pipe expander device that probably can / will make you the proper sized connecter piece to fill your need. Also, some model a suppliers sell a short piece that has inside sized pipe on one end and expanded size outside pipe on other end. Hope this helps you ! Would you show pictures of your car/engine for us who like such :) |
Re: 1932 4 cyl muffler and down plpe Brian,
Add your general location to your profile and someone might have an original (or one of the excellent reproductions by Mike McKennett several years ago but no longer available). You could take an original or a good reproduction to a muffler shop and have the parts you need fabricated. Charlie Stephens |
