Need information of 28-29 dated gastanks...
 

I need some information on 1928-1929 dated gas tanks concerning the attached steering column bracket.

The early bracket has a single "reenforcing rib" in the middle of the back side of the bracket; the later bracket is without this "reenforcing rib".

Trying to determine about when the rib on the bracket was removed and it may have been sometime between May 1928 and October 1929.

I have the part release that could tell me but unfortunaly the information needed was not made available from the archives. Don't know if it is lost to the ages or what.

I dont see one on mine(7-29-29) but maybe you can post pictures of both to be sure?

I think you missed the target a little on this one. The early steering brackets were forgings and the later ones were castings. If I remember correctly, the release showed the change was in August 1928.

First an apology for not sending a photo of the early tank( like 8 months ago ).
Second, the tank I have, NO date stamp, LOW choke rod forged bracket, has NO
center stiffener rib on the column bracket.

Yes I know, you still need the photo?

The bracket on my 5/10/29 Tudor has no rib.

I've got a tank in the attic that I'll try to remember to look at.

How neat is it that Rich Wastler and RichPA have date codes 3 days apart!

I'm not sure if the tank is oe.Its been welded and painted.The VIN on the title 1821377 indicates June of 29, but I understand these engines sat around for awhile sometimes.BTW, the car is a Fordor 3 window Briggs.

Steve, Have one dated 12-10-28 and one dated 7-9-29 both are the same no rib. Philip

First photo: Firewall date - June 13, 1928, Phaeton, no rib
Second photo: Firewall date - August 5, 1928 Special Coupe, no rib
Third photo, Firewall date - June 28, 1929, Unrestored Fordor, no rib
Fourth photo, No firewall date, March 1930 Standard Coupe, rib on bracket

Steve, My '29 Coupe has a tank date of 6-27-29. Bracket is without the rib.
