Flathead with four water pumps G.M. on the 'Barn here posted a pic of a flathead eons ago that he had mocked-up with pre-'37 heads. The mock-up had pumps on the heads AND pumps in the block, with generator mounted, crank pulley, and of course, a belt installed around the whole mess. Anyone have that picture handy? G.M., you out there? DD

Re: Flathead with four water pumps I love that pic. I was going to build one. I picked up a 37 engine this summer but the block wound up being cracked and useless. I have all the parts to build one except a block. I figure I'll have to live to 150 finish all my projects. Walt

Re: Flathead with four water pumps Would it work in helping to cool it down better?

Re: Flathead with four water pumps We did this for Skips 34 P/U since he is the "water pump man" I thought this would be novel. I hasn't been run on the road so I can't comment on it's real life cooling effects. With the long periods we ran it it cooled good but I doubt it is any better than a single set of of his modified pumps. Both sets were modified and the belts may even drive better than with a sngle pump. We call it the "Polish Tank Engine". Some that have seen it claim to have seen them in WW11???? G.M.

The concept must work well, since it doesn't even have a radiator on it. |
