Gas resistant carburator paint

What good gas resistant paints are available for the carburetor?

Re: Gas resistant carburator paint

well i know they make special fuel resistant paint for model RC planes.

gas doesnt seem to attack por15 at all (just paint each piece separately carefully and DONT get any on the threads of anything

I'll second the RC airplane paint. I use it on carburetors and splash shields. No problem with fuel affecting it.

Another paint that's out there is KBS Coatings. It comes in a wide array of colors and is similar to POR-15, but much less expensive. I have been using it for years and love it. I tried it on my Model A carb and it has held up very well to the fuel and heat. The distributor is out of Indiana and their shipping is also very reasonable. KBS also has heat resistant paint, but I haven't used it yet.

This question pops up all the time. I buy this paint at a Model Airplane hobby shop. Dries quickly and holds up well.

Could try disk roster paint. Good for heat and brake fluid.

Main thing is to make SURE bare metal is CLEAN, before spraying on ANYTHING!! I've had good luck by doing the last cleaning with T.S.P.

I have used DP-90 on a number of carburetors and am very pleased with the results. I use an air brush and paint the inside and outside of the carburetor, then use a dry finish coat of DP 90 to get the correct finish and then install new brass plugs !!!

Hey Bill,
I'm going to be painting my block. It was greasy and painted wrong, I cleaned it down to metal. I have just one question on T.S.P., what do you do to rinse it off, anything or just use it to do the last wipe down before you paint?

BILL WILLIAMSON 07-17-2015 09:00 PM

Re: Gas resistant carburator paint

Marshall, just rinse it with water. T.S.P removes ANY kind of greasy/waxy
residue & slightly etches for better adhesion. It's a GREAT general cleaner, commonly used by ALL kinds of painters, house/car/etc. Available anywhere paint is sold & CHEEP!

Re: Gas resistant carburator paint

Some coatings are "gasoline" resistant.

The ultimate test arrives later; i.e., when one later gets his preferred "carburetor cleaner" on the new carburetor coating which dissolves gasoline residue and dissolves some coatings not affected by gasoline.
