39 ford banjo steering wheel My banjo steering wheel has a few cracks in the outer rim where the banjo spokes connect to the outer wheel. Anybody restore these wheels? Otherwise it is in good shape. Jon Laing

Re: 39 ford banjo steering wheel I, too, got a great result with PC 7. It let's you fill the cracks in stages if they are really deep. Also, once cured, it sands nicely. I took my time....winter project.... and then sprayed the finished product with an epoxy primer and then a finish color coat. This was about three years ago and so far no cracks. The restored wheel makes a big difference in the appearance of the car. Mine was in really bad shape, so almost anything was an improvement. While I had the wheel off, I cleaned up the "banjo" chrome as well.

Re: 39 ford banjo steering wheel I imported from west Virginia my 39 coupe 25 years ago, the banjo was in a very bad state with lots of the metal under the rim showing ,a bit of a mess, i ground all the cracks to a wedge so it could take some filler ,I used JBweld on a recommendation, I found it built up well (I did the deep filling in 2 stages) and it sanded easily with fine final sanding ,I used a light coat of acid etching primer and a coat of filler primer and after rubbing smooth 2 or 3 coats of colour and 2 or 3 coats of 2 pack lacquer (clear),my first attempt and very pleased with it ,that was about 6 years ago and I havnt used the car as I,m still working on the restoration(I don't rush things ) but no cracks have appeared and in my opinion it looks great and I am pretty fussy , good luck with yours ...Jim.
