Wiring gauge depends on the load on a given circuit and the length of the wire run. There are some general guidelines if you don't want to figure it out wire by wire. Here is a general guide that Rumbleseat posted in 2009. If looking at a 12v guide keep in mind that 6v circuits require a larger gauge wire than 12v circuits.

Re: ´36 wiering Hopefully Don Rogers might know of a wiring diagram showing wire gauges. I found one back in the ‘70s in a library book, but don’t remember what book. Motor’s Manual, maybe? Mike

Re: ´36 wiering Starting with an original harness for length and size is an easy way....then you can descide if you want to add on or make a copy with new style cables.

Re: ´36 wiering I have diagrams with wire gauge on them, but they are later 12v.

Rolf, you can buy the looms from Macs as well as others,...the wiring on your car is very basic and will have no fuse protection.I looked at rewiring my 36 by buying all the relevent wires individually and it didn't make sense in the end so I bought an after market wiring kit and upgraded to 12v neg earth,,,,halogen bulbs and new reflectors, indicators etc......my reasoning was usability and safety. The headlights are like searchlights now and starting is instant...I drove it once when I first got it without indicators and that was it, way too dangerous.Every circuit is now protected by a fuse.I managed to cover the looms in period sheathing and covered the exposed individual wires with the sheathing off the old wiring loom so it all looks period.Pay particular attention to good earthing points.....I earthed everything individually and did not rely on just using the ,body to component ,for earth contact. |
Re: ´36 wiering Rhode Island wire makes harnesses with original cloth type wire and correct colors and patterns.
