Anybody holding on a project afraid of it going to rat rodders?
 

I have one I don't think I'll ever get to but feel the biggest market when I sell will be the rat rod crowd. I can afford to let it sit but I've no shed for it either. (1937 pickup)

Is it a bigger shame to see it sit and rot or let it become a someone's bastardized expression of "art" . Art as I heard it called too many times. wtf?

I don't think you can be sure what the buyer intentions are. A guy can say what he thinks I want to hear. Why/Should I care??

I know a guy that bought a 1935 chevy and the guy he bought it from told him that he wanted it to be left stock but he ended up making a street rod out of it

Another alternative would be to part it out. The nice stuff could go to another restoration and the poor condition stuff that a restoration would pass over on wouldn't really matter what it gets used for.

Its just a option . Some people go nuts if you part something out . No matter what you wont please everyone.

I bought my stock '37 Fordor Humpback from a fella who didn't want it to be a hotrod. He picked the right guy.

Any time something is sold, it becomes the property of the purchaser. . . . .who can do with it as he sees fit. I like skidmarks solution to the problem.

The answer is in your last sentence, just remove the slash mark so it reads like this- Why should I care?
Admittedly you won't get to it and don't have proper storage so it is either turn it loose or see it return to the earth in the form of rust.

I have this emotional attachment to it. I'm sick I know. haha.

I might check with a local museum. Reynolds Alberta Museum. They restore to original but I'm aware they often sell off car donations to fund other projects. They have 100's of un-restored cars in their collection. I doubt this unit will trump their priority list.

I think parting it out is the way to go.

Same here. The guy I bought my 1937 Ford from pulled the plug on a sale because the potential buyer let it out he was going to street rod the car. The buyer was mad. Too bad. The seller sold to me for a little less, knowing full well that I would not turn it into a street rod or rat rod. To use fourfords words: He picked the right guy.

When I bought my 37 coupe the only stipulation I got from the second owner seller was that I had to call her (the coupe) Stella and not do a name change. The original owner was the typical little ole lady school teacher,only car she ever owned and owned it for over forty years. Her name was Stella.

It's a bunch of metal and unless it was bought new by a family member or was your first car, that's all it is. Better having it on the road than in any condition be it rat-rod, hot rod, survivor or restored. If you don't want to sell because someone might not do as you please, everyone loses including the seller because it'll just rot away to nothing too far gone for anyone to enjoy except the scrapper and you next of kin when they sell for scrap. As said above, after it sold it ain't yours no more and the buyer can do what they want.

No ratrodder I know purposely chops or bastardizes any car body .

He usually has the dregs and rustbuckets that the restorers turn their noses up at.

Better to see it on the road than rusting away further.

And, from personal experience, an unrestored car is much easier on the anxiety.

You can park it anywhere and not worry about old bags hitting with their shopping trolley, or kids using the fenders as slippery dips.

Too many cars and trucks left to rot because the owners don't want to sell them. People always need parts too so that's important but you don't know what the parts are going to be used on anyway. Your truck, your call but lets see it, I love '37's.

PS:I have seen some pretty impressive rat rods and most were constructed with vehicles that most people thought were nothing but junk.

It's not for sale because I'm gonna fix it up some day or you'll modify it from stock. I've heard that more times than I can count, then many years later I go to the fellas auction only see a rotted hulk. Better to sell it to someone who will put it to use. I'm sure most of you would not appreciate going into my basement garage and seeing my deuce delivery, deuce 3 window I've had for 37 years, deuce roadster, pu or 5 window all Henry steel and built into really nice hot rods. But I also appreciate and don't bad mouth a nice restoration.

I'm not "gonna fix her up someday" guy. Like everybody, I collect stuff, have too many projects but know when it's time to let go. Long story why I bought this in the first place. This one is rough and but worth saving in my mind, just feeling bad I can't do it. Feel like I let the ol girl down.
I'll post in the for sale section what ever I think makes sense to ship. Hope to find a local buyers first.

NO ~!! just do not want to give it away. I have seen both ways going on. Show me the $$$$$$$$ and it can go. Titled national winner etc. Restored and mostly all right or correct . kc
