Question about front bumper bolts on my 1929 phaeton 1 Attachment(s)
I am trying to find the bolts to attach the front bumper on my 1929 phaeton in my hoard of bolts. I thought I had some, but can't find them. Anyway, I dug out Mick Isbell's Ford Model A Standard Hardware booklet to see the type and size of bolts that are needed. His booklet says they are 1/2" -20 TPI 1 1/4" long hex bolts, PN A21219. This bolt size appears right. The bolt is specified on page 32 of his booklet. My question is, when you look at the picture of the bolt on page ix, it shows the bolt has a cotter pin hole in it. I don't remember the hole in the end of the bolts when I attached the bumper brackets on my 28 coupe several years ago. What gives? I am thinking this must be a mistake, as the nut shown below the bolt on page 32 is a standard hex nut, not a castellated nut that uses a cotter pin. I am attaching picture showing the bolt on page ix. Any helpful comments would be appreciated. If anyone has any of these bolt in good condition that they would sell, I could use some.
Thanks, Rusty Nelson |
Re: Question about front bumper bolts on my 1929 phaeton Rusty, the bolts in that chart don't look at all correct. There is no cotter pin hole. There is just the bolt, the lock washer and the nut.
The parts price list has the numbers but no drawing of them or size specified. I'll look to see if I have any extras in my bolt box and let you know. I can at least send photos to you. -DAN |

Re: Question about front bumper bolts on my 1929 phaeton Dan,
I think you are correct, the Mick Isbell booklet is wrong. If you can find any of the bumper arm mounting bolts you don't need, I can use some for my phaeton and CCPU. Thanks Rusty |
Re: Question about front bumper bolts on my 1929 phaeton The information contained in Mick's book was taken directly from the Original Ford Parts Price Books. The information was correct based on the research conducted. I also own a Early January 1929 Roadster and the bolt that you are referring to that is on my car has a castle nut with a cotter pin. Remember, ... there were always exceptions !

Re: Question about front bumper bolts on my 1929 phaeton 2 Attachment(s)
Rusty, I do have a couple of spare bolts I found in my bolt box, I'll check to see about nuts.
Here are a couple of photos of the bolts from one of my pickups. The lockwasher is not original. -DAN |
Re: Question about front bumper bolts on my 1929 phaeton Dan,
Thanks for looking for the bumper arm bolts, I appreciate it. I would like to buy them. I don't really need the washers and nuts if you can use them, as I have enough of them. Rusty |
