Sedan delivery auction
 

Did anyone on here buy or know the person who purchased a sedan delivery at an auction in NJ a little over 3 years ago. It had Bill's liquor store advertising on it. If so I'm interested in buying it. PM me

it was bought and resold. no idea where it went.


as I recall- sold for around 13k and was quite ruff!

Cool looking truck. Not that auction but one local to me a few years ago a similar delivery wagon that had been completely restored on the inside and drivetrain, outside was in primer ready for paint sold for $5000. A Chevy delivery wagon circa '30-'31 in same condition sold for $6500. I should've bought the both of them.

It was one of those missed opportunities, a local auctioneer who is also a car collector decide to hold his own auction. He was thinning his collection and was selling a dozen or so t birds and lincolns. There was a mismatch of cars there, from 80's junk to a few early cars. There were i think 3 model a sedans that all sold for around $5k. And they were nice older restorations. I stopped by to take a look just because the place was about a mile from my house. I didnt even bother to register as there wasn't anything there i was looking for and after looking at the condition of the 'As' i figured they were going to be out of my price range.

i was there.. that J*ck*ss auctioneer sold CRAP off a farm trailer for an hour IN THE rain / SNOW before he started selling car parts. I lost all respect for him that day.. ALL.

That must be a common occurence:eek: Many auctioneers do that.

Stood in the rain and snow and in and out of a barn one day for SIX HOURS trying to buy a really nice May West gas pump, a Fry 117, all original and in very very good shape. It had been in the farmer's barn for ever.

Every time the auction would progress towards the gas pump he'd turn and go another way. Finally at the end of the sale he announces 'Ladies and Gentleman the star of today's auction.....' He shot off some ridiculously stupid opening bid and 'somebody' bit right away and it was off to the races. That was obviously some sort of scam it was a set up. I'd guess the pump was already pre-sold so it didn't matter what it bid. That and he was pulling bids out of the air pointing to people who weren't there. Never went to another one of his sales ever again and never will. 6 hours plus traveling time (60 mile round trip) of my life I never ever got back.

A different sale a different auctioneer, they were selling a guy's Model A collection and parts. He had gone to a nursing home and the money was going towards his care. He had no family left. He had a lot of NOS stuff. 'Mike' was getting everything for a buck or five bucks, the auctioneer would call out '$1 and then yell 'sold' Mike gets another one. They sold a super nice short block for a buck, a NOS McCord radiator still in the box for 10 bucks, and on and on. Mike really made out whoever he was. Several of us complained and the auctioneer snapped at us and said 'If you want to bid, get your hands in the air so we can see you.' I was standing right in front of the truck in front of the window. A--hole I crossed that outfit off my list too! Another 100 mile round trip. To make matters worse I stopped in that town and got gas and somebody stole my credit card info. When I got home the credit card company was calling and said 'Did you just buy $700 worth of stuff in Dubai?" I said "I don't even know where Dubai is??" :p:p

I saw that big Buyer's Penalty ( they call it a 'Premium' that doesn't have quite as bad of a sound to it) also.

I stopped participating in those types of sales also. People say 'Just bid 23% under what you want to pay' it never works that way. Take that fee plus what the auction house is charging the seller and they are making a killing. No reason for that. And if it was Iowa they hit you with another 5% state sales tax.

Auction houses here do the same. I do not even attend these days and I've told them why.

Brennt: According to the auction house web site, that 23% is their Buyer's "Internet Premium" if you bid online via Proxibid. They break that down as follows: 15% Auction House, 5% Proxibid, 3% Credit Card Fee = 23%

If you pick up the vehicle in Illinois or are an Illinois resident, then you will need to pay a 7% Illinois tax as well.

If you bid by phone, absentee or in person, then the Buyer's Premium is 15% for cash payment or 18% if payment by credit card.

For the seller, the auction house web site states the following about the Seller's Premium:
"It can be based on a negotiated flat rate or on a sliding scale
$1-$100 35%
$101-$1000 25%
$1001-$2000 20%
$2001-$3500 15%
$3500-Up 10%"


So, for example, if the car would sell for say $5000 via an online bid and the buyer drove there in person to pick it up, then (if I did the numbers right):

The auction house would get $1250 ($500 from the seller, $750 from the buyer)
Proxibid would get $250
The credit card company would get $150
The State of Illinois would get $350
The seller of the car would get $4500
and
The buyer would have to pay $6500 to take the car home.

OUCH! :eek:
