Firing order 1 Attachment(s)
I guess we all know the firing order on a T is 1-2-4-3. But, what is the proper way for the wires to be connected to the plugs?
In the picture the engine has a new wiring harness between the coil box and the timer. The color coded wires are hooked correctly to the timer. Notice the plug wires come from the box with the wires from 3 and 4 crossed. I have seen other engines done this way, and I believe it to be correct. But I have also seen engines with the plug wires going to 3 and 4 not being crossed. I find that visually pleasing, but doesn't it mean that a couple of timer wires are not to their color coded terminal on the timer? |
Re: Firing order Your photo doesn't look right to me but my coil box is on the firewall. my wires between the coils and timer are placed so the wires from the coils to the plugs are 1234. The firing order is still 1243.

Re: Firing order My mistake, I have the green and blue wires swapped on the timer. The green is definitely longer than the blue in the harness, so I am still a bit confused.
The '26 and '27's had the coil box on the block. Where the coil box is mounted is not a factor. https://www.bing.com/images/search?v...ing&ajaxhist=0 |

Re: Firing order I cross the timer wires and leave the plug wires un-crossed.

In my picture, the blue wire should go up over the timer to the 10 o'clock terminal, the green wire should go to the terminal where the blue wire is in the picture - 4:00 o'clock. That puts the blue wire behind the spark control rod when it is installed. I should have done more research before starting this thread, but now I know! https://www.bing.com/images/search?v...114&ajaxhist=0 |
Re: Firing order 6 Attachment(s)
The engine mount coil box is different from the cowl box wires to the plugs. The cowl box Left to Right is 1-2-3-4 to the plugs.
The engine mount '26-'27 is Left to Right 4-3-2-1 to the plugs, i.e. the terminal next to the radiator is #1 plug. For the '26-'27 commentator loom, the loom goes over the front of the engine to the timer. At the timer, the Blue is to top right of the timer rod hole, Black is top left, Red is lower left, and Green is lower right. |
Re: Firing order I tried once to crank start a T that the timer wires were crossed by the previous owner as in your photo but the plug wires were not. I should have inspected first!

Re: Firing order Joe some good photos that help, this is a great thread as I will be finishing my valves and getting the head back on this week.
Planning to start wiring and get the front timer with related parts back together this month. |

I am fairly new to T's, most of my info comes from the internet. T people are good at sharing! For example, if you post pictures of the valve installation process and tools used and what type of valves, and clearances necessary etc. with a description it would help someone (like me) who has never been through the process. It does take some time to photograph as you go along, but this forum is very user friendly when posting pictures. What year are you building? |
