Re: Two-Door Ford and Mercury Wagons |
Re: Two-Door Ford and Mercury Wagons I've said it before, and I know I'll probably get an argument or two.
Mercury is the only US auto maker that made a two door hartop wagon with no pillar befor the 2nd row seat. Sal |
Re: Two-Door Ford and Mercury Wagons In reply to Sal's comment, while the 1955-1957 Chevrolet Nomad and Pontiac Safari were two door Hardtop Station Wagons, the B Pillar was fixed.
Sal is correct when he said that only Mercury offered a true 2 door Hardtop Station Wagon. I believe that only three manufactures offered Hardtop Station Wagons, with Mercury also offering Hardtop Station Wagon in both 2 door and 4 door. Mercury 2 and 4 door Hardtop Station Wagons - 1957-1960 Chrysler 4 door Hardtop & Pillared Station Wagons - 1960-1964 Dodge 4 door Hardtop & Pillared Station Wagons - 1960-1964 Mercman <>< |
Re: Two-Door Ford and Mercury Wagons I believe Buick also offered a 4 door hardtop wagon around 1958.
I think it was called Cabellaro or something like that. Sal |
Re: Two-Door Ford and Mercury Wagons Sal, You are 100% correct.
Following is my revised list of true Hardtop Station Wagons excluding the 1955-1957 Chev Nomad and 1955-1957 Pontiac Safari:- Mercury 2 and 4 door Hardtop Station Wagons - 1957-1960 Buick 4 door Hardtop & Pillared Station Wagons - 1957-1958 Chrysler 4 door Hardtop & Pillared Station Wagons - 1960-1964 Dodge 4 door Hardtop & Pillared Station Wagons - 1960-1964 Oldsmobile 4 door Hardtop & Pillared Station Wagons - 1957-1958 Mercman <>< |

Re: Two-Door Ford and Mercury Wagons I missed adding Rambler and Ambassador to my list.
Advertising for the 1956 Rambler Brochure said "Now! The World's First Hardtop Station Wagon". Ambassador 4 door Hardtop Station Wagons - 1958-1960 Rambler 4 door Hardtop and Pillared Station Wagons - 1956-1957 Mercman <>< |

Re: Two-Door Ford and Mercury Wagons Quote:
That's my impression, too, Sal. In one of the previous discussions about the 2dr ht Merc wagon, someone tried to suggest that Mopar also made one, and even had a pic of a '60's era version in drag race form. The car in that pic, however, was customized and didn't come in from the factoy as a 2 dr ht wagon. If there are other factory produced 2 dr ht wagons beside the Merc, the car in the pic isn't one of them. I wonder if the Europeans or Japanese made any, though? |
Re: Two-Door Ford and Mercury Wagons Mercman and FoMoCoMe, I absolutely LOVE the '61 Comet wagon. Thanks for posting the pics!
I've sworn off buying more old cars, but if I ever run across one of those...I might have to have to unswear myself from that pledge (however that works.) |
