'31 Standard Fordor(160-A)? 5 Attachment(s)
The visor threw me. Someone must have added(?). Paperwork shows '31, radiator shell emblem '31. Engine # is 259XXXX, so that's not any help. Windshield didn't seem to have much of a 'slant' to it. Likely there are numerous visual clues I'm missing. Thanks

Re: '31 Standard Fordor(160-A)? Does not have a EARLY instrument panel! Early would have a Oval speedometer. This one have a round speedometer and later Panel. Looks to have a 1931 Stant radiator cap[Mid 1931]? Hope you bought it [if it was forsale]and a good price. Solid it looks like. Front bumpers seem to be the long ones found before Sept 1930.???

Re: '31 Standard Fordor(160-A)? I see a late instrument panel with the round speedometer. Its certainly a 31 radiator shell. It is a standard fordor, but I cannot see the windshield well enough to tell if its a slant. It does not look like one. A slant would not have the visor. The type of door opening mechanism throws me because it is consistent with a s/w, but would not have been found on a 165 to my knowledge. The handles and escutcheons are not model A. The door pocket looks like a Briggs off a 165. The steering column support was only on jan and feb 31's...after that it came from the dash rail, not the gas tank. Its either an early 31 with some experimental door hardware, a s/w with a visor, or an old messtoration. Do you have more photos, perhaps of the front seat with the door open so we can see the sides of the seat back? a photo of the windshield from the side would help too.

Re: '31 Standard Fordor(160-A)? Did all slants have the indented firewall?
|
Re: '31 Standard Fordor(160-A)? No , on indented there was flat firewall too.
|
Re: '31 Standard Fordor(160-A)? Early 1931 cars did not and the sedans were not necessarily slant windshield cars and would have a visor if not.

Re: '31 Standard Fordor(160-A)? from the outside, I would agree its an early 31 Murray 165. but whassup with the interior door opening mechanism?

Re: '31 Standard Fordor(160-A)? Parts come in, Parts get used. That was the way Ford did it.

Re: '31 Standard Fordor(160-A)? I'll have to go back soon/tomorrow and take a couple more pics. The question I should have asked was: Are all '31's slant windshields? Sounds like the answer is no. I must have misinterpreted my "As Henry Built It" book.
Yes, I'm in the process of purchasing it. It's a friend who is letting me take it, clean it up, and determine a value. It was a very pleasant surprise. Was that horn(under the hood) an early after-market item? I appreciate the comments. Bruce |
Re: '31 Standard Fordor(160-A)? JUNK horn under the hood....

Re: '31 Standard Fordor(160-A)? this is an early 31 Murray Town sedan with a straight front window. Very rare car.

Re: '31 Standard Fordor(160-A)? I don't see any cowl lights....are they missing or is it a Fordor, not Town Sedan?
|
Re: '31 Standard Fordor(160-A)? Definitely a standard fordor. The dome lamp is oval, and mounted mid-cab. Toggle switch on door pillar.

Re: '31 Standard Fordor(160-A)? Looks to me like an early '31 standard Murray fordor. The absence of cowl lights suggests that it is a standard model, but you can further confirm this suspicion by noticing the shape of the dome light and whether it has window garnish trim under the window frames. The interior door handle configuration is a little confusing, but the sure way to confirm will be the presence of wooden floor sills, etc. I'm not sure how rare these cars may be, since I don't believe that the slant window models would have been available until April or May -- perhaps someone more familiar with model transitions could better attest to that point. Being an early '31, it should have the flat firewall, and it may even be conceivable that it was built in (very) late 1930, since it is my understanding that some late 1930 cars (though mostly deluxe models) were equipped with the '31 radiator shell and presumably '31 splash aprons. Just my thoughts and ramblings though. FWIW.

Dick, ramblings always appreciated. No garnish trim under the window frames. Here's a pic of the dome lamp. Rear doors have same interior hardware(fuzzy pic).

Re: '31 Standard Fordor(160-A)? That is a Murry 165C, I own one. In 13 yrs. have never seen another one. The interior door handles are identical. the dome light should be round with a switch on it. My seats are grey check. Those seats look to be bedford cord which I thought was only offered on the deluxe model, along with mohair
