21 stud temp gauge question

Does the temp gauge bulb just screw into the waterpump? No special fitting? It looks like there is a tapered shoulder in the hole but not sure.

Re: 21 stud temp gauge question

The temp gauge used in these 21 stud engines is the capillary type; has the glass tube with red liquid. Yes, it seats on that tapered shoulder you refer to. The thread is 5/8 UNF. The later 24 stud engines use the electric type temp gauges. These screw into the heads with a 3/8 pipe thread. Will not fit the earlier engines

Used one like this gauge on my '34 21 stud. No special fitting required...

Ok thanks guys. I am running an aftermarket mechanical gauge and it looks correct I just was not sure if the waterpump needed a special fitting.
