1937 Deluxe Turing Four-Door Sedan value?
 

As an infrequent visitor to this side of "Fordbarn" from my usual stomping grounds over on the Model T and A forums, over the years I have posted questions here about my 89 year-old friend's 1937 Deluxe Four-Door Touring Sedan (I hope I got all that nomenclature correct!) that he has owned since the late 1950's. He is the second owner. Following advice given here, we straightened out the brake problem and the steering with new ball joints, so the old girl is doing just fine these days. I wish I could say the same for my aged friend.
I ran into him the other day in a parking lot being helped out of a modern car and I asked how his '37 was doing since I had seen it last year. It's doing fine, he says, but he is considering selling it because he can't drive it anymore. Typical old age problems prevent him from safely driving the car. He asked me to investigate values for his car to determine a fair, realistic selling price.
Here's what I can tell you: It was repainted black many years ago, but the paint job still looks very good. Good shine and depth. The interior is original mohair. with the usual wear in the usual places, but still very nice. Only the front floor mat and cowl kick panels have been replaced. I believe it has the original 85 HP engine. I don't know how many miles are on the car, but I'm sure it's less than 70,000. I am in no way an expert in early V-8 Fords, but as far as I can tell, the only thing missing is the running board chrome/stainless steel side trim pieces. The running boards were recovered years ago (they still look good) and for some reason, those trim pieces were not re-installed. The car starts easily, runs well and is very well-mannered driving.
I know a definitive value cannot be exactly provided via a website, but what kind of range of value should my friend expect for his car? The survivor interior alone makes this a desirable snapshot of a time long gone. If needed, I can take photos of the interior and get further information from my friend. He just wants to get a fair price and be sure his car is going to a good home.

Judging from the photos I would say somewhere between $14,000 and $16,000. Appears to be a nice old car, but it is a fordor which generally don't bring a lot of money.

I believe Tom has given an accurate range in value. This would make a nice car for someone looking to enter the V8 Ford hobby without spending a lot of money. Sedans also make great touring cars if your're into the Early Ford V8 Club and participate in their meets and tours.

Is your friend a member of the Early Ford V8 Club? If so he might advertise this car on their web page and in the V8 Times Magazine.

There’s a 1936 restored 4 door L&B upholstery on the auction site right now $13000 starting price with no bids $17000 buy it now. Been on since last weekend I believe. So that’s not a good sign.

Put a few rounds of 38 caliber into the side and advertise it as a gangster car; they loved four doors! Should bring $20k+

For many of us who have found out the hard way, the Pre-War market for a lot of cars has really tanked. As for the '37 possibly 13K with a struggle. JMO

Tom , Thanks yes that is the car. Crying shame as I think that car even with the obvious changes it has is worth more than BIN price. I own a handfull of 36's & have owned many 36 & 37's over the last 45 years (cant believe I dont know the difference,thanks tub)
& even a 4 door in this condition in my opinion of either 36 or 37 should be worth over $17000 but unfortunately the present market does not reflect this.

for '37's...its all about those two extra doors imo. I bought my very clean and solid '37 ford club coupe for 16k..

Good luck selling. To find any buyer at any price will be a challenge. 30s Ford market is very soft to non-existent. Just sold a restored beautiful 36 woodie and had to take about 1/2 of what it would have sold for a few years ago and a long time to sell.

I decided to come up with a number before looking at anyone elses price and came up with $15000. Seems like we all pretty much agree.
