A-v8 Hi All,
Just spitballing here...but since ‘search’ button is broken I will ask. If I wanted to make up an A-V8, what would it take? I am thinking stock coupe/Tudor, stock 53’ engine late 30’s tranny. I assume juice brakes? I just want a stock model A with a V8. So can someone point me in the right research direction please. Thank you. Mike |
Re: A-v8 Juice brakes,split wishbone,adapter kit for pedals V8 trans or T5..adapt steering column. And thats just for starters..boxing the frame,installing a k rail are good things to do as well...its a big job done right and not much gained over a hopped up 4 banger unless you spend thousands on the engine. Sexy? You bet...and returns on investment if you're handy

Re: A-v8 Thanks guys. Just looking for a stock set up not a ‘hot rod’. Something that we can tour across country in and maybe tow a tear drop with.
Although a hopper up banger might be nice as well. Down draft carbs O/V set up maybe..... Mike |

Stock or not, a V8 just doesn't drop in place on a stock Model A. You will need to adjust and change the engine location and mounting, the trans and the length of the driveshaft and the arrangement and mounting of the pedals. Depending on your final placement of the motor, it can impact the location of the steering box. It may sound like a simple drop in, but there are a number of things you need to consider before taking this project on. Get Tardell's book. You'll see rather quickly if this conversation is for you or not. Then all you'll be out is the $50 bucks, but you'll also have a great resource on your hands. |
Re: A-v8 Not trying to argue but for touring and even towing a small trailer some choice upgrades to the A engine would probably be easier and cheaper and be just as capable.

Re: A-v8 V8 is 221 or 239 cubic inches across 8 cylinders
Model A is 200 cubic inches across 4 cylinders The biggest difference is counterbalancing and pressurized main bearings,critical for sustained high speed driving.This can be done to an A relatively easy..the rest is fundamental,the A torque rise when total horsepower is doubled through bolt on modifications along with an overdrive you're in V8 country |

Re: A-v8 Since mod's being done, drop in a 2000cc Pinto with syncro tranny. Can run ac and accessories. Looks more like an A block than a V8 and more reliable.
