Coil

Switching from 6 v to 12 v I have been told you need to get eiother a 12v coil with a built in resistor or a new coil and add a ballast resistor or just add a ballast resistor. My thought is all that is necessary is to just add a ballast resistor what say you?

Re: Coil

Ballast resistor. Check out Bubba's post on coil help, very informative.

You can use your present coil but will have to use a resistor. I used a new 3.0 OHM coil with my 12 volt conversion. The 3.0 OHM coil is internally resisted and will need no external resistor.

Re: Coil

I agree with Purdy. Any of the 3 options you list will work. I used a NAPA IC-14 coil for my 12 volt car, no resistor.

If you also go to negative ground, you need to swap the wires that hook up to the posts on the coil.
