Minor fun find

I have had my '51 Ford since 1987. It was a nice original when I got it, but over the years, I have made some changes. The original interior is in great shape, so in all that time I have never had occasion to remove the rear seat. I took it out yesterday to run some wires, and I found this booklet under the seat. I would imagine it has been there since new. It's a little worse for wear, but kinda neat in it's own way. It's 39 pages long and has a lot of stuff in it. What I found particularly interesting is the list of accessories that you could get with them. The booklet was copyrighted by Ford Motor Company in 1950, so I assume it is an original factory piece.

I don't think the list is legible on the attached photos, but here is the list from the booklet :

Cigarette Lighter
Electric Clock
Back-up Lamps
Road lamps
Courtesy and Map Light
Map light
Glove Compartment Light
Spotlights
Engine Compartment Light
Luggage Compartment Light
Turn Indicator - Standard Transmission
Turn Indicator - Automatic Transmission
Seat Covers
Air Ventilation Filters
Engine Governors
Exhaust Deflector
Lock Type Gas Cap
Front and Rear Bumper Guards
Front Fender Guards
License Plate Frame
Glare-Proof Inside Rear View Mirror
Outside Rear View Mirror (door-top, door shoulder, or clamp-on types)
Vanity Visor Mirror
Rocker Panel Trim
Rear fender Shields
Stainless Steel Wheel Discs
Wheel trim Rings
Window Vent Shades
Outside Windshield Visor
"See Clear" Windshield Washer
Rear Seat Radio Speaker
Top Cowl Antenna
Undercoating, etc.

That's a lot of stuff. Some of it is questionable, like "Governors".. Also, where would "Air ventilation Filters" go? They were really padding the list. I've seen a lot if the stuff mentioned, but always assumed it was aftermarket, but apparently not.

The booklet has moved up to the glove compartment from living under the rear seat.

Nice find! The mfr's still play that game of exaggerating every little "feature".

That’s awesome!!.... great find... I have some small “Fact “ reprint booklets like that. The vent filters went in the vents in firewall where your fresh air comes in. I got a set on eBay couple years ago... again, good find on the original!!.... Mark

That is really cool. Be sure to print out a dated and signed copy of your Fordbarn post and keep it in the little booklet for future owners of you little shoe box. After all, weren't shoe boxes meant to keep stuff in?

Great find! Anyone know if there is a VIN decoder to see what the original options were on our cars? I can see a few items that I have on my '51, would be cool to verify they were original options.

Air Ventilation Filters
They were 2 to a box and fit in where the rubber ring is on your inner fender panel air duct in the engine compartment.
Any one who has a 1949-51 Ford should have these as they keep the bugs from being blown into the interior compartment when driving highway speeds.
I know since I also have original interior and use old bed sheets as cover the front seat when driving any distance. When it's time to remove the sheet covers, there is all sorts of dead little bugs in the crease of the front seat.
To see what I mean, open your hood and look down on either the left or right side of the the radiator support cross member. All that is there is hardware cloth, with openings big enough to let bee, flies, and even small grasshoppers through.
These air filters used to be everywhere at swap meets years ago.

I think a lot of them were dealer installed, so they wouldn’t be in the VIN. I have a book at home that has a chart with the option prices. I post it when I get home... Mark
P.S. I don’t believe VIN numbers had that much info back then.

True story... you guys will get a laugh out of this.... I got stuck in the nuts by a Bee that came in thru the vent... that’s why I have the filters in my cars... Shoebox- Central has had them in the past.... Mark

Great to know about the "Air ventilation Filters". I checked eBay and Shoebox Central, neither has them. Anyone know of an alternative source?
