Coils

Have posted this on "another site" and got some good advice but not what I wanted to hear. Since I'm a stuborn s.o.b. I thought I'd give the Barn a shot. I'm changing the capacitors on a couple of spare coils and was wondering how the backyard boys set them up. I know there's testers out there and that's probably the correct way to go but I don't have access to any without the packaging/shipping routine which I'm trying to avoid. Usually I set them to a 1/4" to 3/8" spark and let it go at that. Any ideas?

Re: Coils

Send them out or contact a local club. Many clubs have a tester. There's no way to adjust the points accurately without the tester. You may get them close on your own but the engine just won't run right or have much power. The current draw is critical.

Even if you can see the 1.3 amps, you can't see the double spark without a HCCT or StroboSpark. That effectively halves your current.
