helmet distributor air gap? I'm sure I read a recent post saying the rotor to side plate gap is crucial to good starting and running. Question is, what should that gap be? I'm assuming close as you can make it without touching. Is there a recommended max & min?

Re: helmet distributor air gap? In a 30s radio installation book it said ( for reasons of radio interference), build up or move contacts to get 0.005 gap
A larger gap increases firing voltage for the spark plugs, a larger rotor gap will fire fouled plugs because of the higher voltage needed to jump the rotor gap---- but too much gap can increase the voltage beyond what the coil can make--- or stress the insulation to failure in the coil |
