Buying enclosed Trailer 8 Attachment(s)
Hi - I have 2 A’s and a golf cart looking at a 24’ VNose. I will haul 1 A and the GC at a time.
Here are the spec of trailer and pictures 8.5’ x 24’ 14K GVWR 12 tie downs Washout floors Escape Door What's your thoughts?Attachment 485382 Attachment 485383 Attachment 485384 Attachment 485385 Attachment 485386 Attachment 485387 Attachment 485388 Attachment 485389 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Buying enclosed Trailer I had a 28’, V-nose, 14k when I moved. I was able to haul a 28 Closed cab pickup and a 29 Business Coupe. I did 2 rows of E-track in the floor plus 8 D-rings in the floor. I also did 8’ interior height. It gave me lots of options to tie things down. My new at the time 2019 GMC Denali Crew cab diesel would get about 8.5 mpg towing that moose.

Re: Buying enclosed Trailer I also mounted a winch in the front and always winched my cars in. It was a little slower, but offered better control of the loading. I also unloaded them with the winch.

Buying enclosed Trailer Start with the horse that is pulling the cart.
What is your tow vehicle GVWR ? What is the actual curb weight of your tow vehicle fully loaded & fueled ? Deduct the curb weight from the GVWR and that is the weight of a loaded trailer you can safely pull. Now deduct the curb weight of what the load is that you are putting in the trailer. What remains is the empty weight of a trailer you can safely pull. That weight rating will determine if you will buy an aluminum frame or steel frame trailer. This is the first step …. Jim |

Buying enclosed Trailer The next step is to measure the combined
overall length of the vehicle(s) you plan on hauling in the trailer along with whatever else you need. An average Model T measures 13 feet from bumper to bumper. You mentioned you planned on only hauling one at a time along with a golf cart. But an occasion might arise where you would need to haul a longer vehicle or both Model A’s. Two Model A’s won’t fit in a 24 foot trailer. A nominal size trailer would be 28 feet but that still is a tight fit. I would recommend a 30 foot box. Jim |
Buying enclosed Trailer The maximum interior space can be
obtained with a coffin front trailer. A nose cone will increase fuel mileage and keep your trailer centered in your lane while towing. A v nose trailer takes away from interior floor space. It does not reduce wind drag or increase fuel mileage. V nose trailers take less material to build so trailer manufacturers push them to sell thru dealers because they are cheaper to make. Steel frame versus aluminum ? If you are not towing extensively an aluminum frame trailer will allow for better fuel economy and higher load capacity by reducing the empty trailer curb weight. But an aluminum frame will not stand up to repeated road stress. Where do you live & where will you be using the trailer ? If you live in an area with snow or will be towing in an area with snow - the ceiling frame members should be 16 inches nominal on center. I have been custom designing my enclosed car hauler trailers to my specifications for many years and have custom designed several trailers free as a courtesy to car enthusiasts. A full perimeter frame ( no outriggers ). Ceiling - sidewall - floor structural framing 12 inches on center. Nominal 3/4 inch CDX plywood floor screwed to every structural member. One piece roof bathtub wrapped. No roof vents or skylights. 0.40 inch aluminum exterior screwed to every sidewall structural member. Extended 5 foot tongue. Adjustable & removable Bulldog coupler on tongue. Dual torsion axles. 16 inch ST tires rated at 14 ply. Minimum 5K rear ramp door with full bottom hinge. Nominal 90 inch wide x 96 inch tall opening. Side flush recessed doors on driver and passenger side. Full ceiling LED lighting with switches by side doors. Jim |
Buying enclosed Trailer Features I install myself:
Epoxy garage paint bare wood factory floor. Surface mount fully boxed etrac. 12K remote control electric winch w/ 12VDC battery inside trailer adjacent to winch. 3500 pound electric tongue jack. Battery feeds winch - tongue jack - interior lights. Battery is charged by tow vehicle thru 7 way cord. I load & unload all vehicles by wireless remote control winch - usually on an upgrade - gravity holds tension on the winch line while loading and unloading - no need to open and close the driver door. I custom designed a loft storage area with side slider windows at the nose for storage. It is high enough so a Model A or T will fit under it loaded nose first. Jim |
Re: Buying enclosed Trailer 1 Attachment(s)
This is my current hauling set up.
This trailer was custom built in 2018 to my specifications. I have always utilized the first generation Ford 7.3 PSD in an F350 2WD CC Dually platform for a tow vehicle. https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/attac...1&d=1646391895 Jim |
Re: Buying enclosed Trailer Looks like a nice trailer Carbone! being the typical internet advisor (lol) I was gonna say thats a pretty big trailer, hope you have experience, but seeing that RV I think that little box will cruise easily down the road. Do you have it ordered? just a curiosity as I have heard elsewhere that trailers have a long wait list like most other things nowadays. Does anyone make a gooseneck/5th wheel enclosed trailer? I have seen plenty of flat decks but dont recall ever seeing a box. Big difference between the two as I am sure you are aware of. Sounds like you have a nice truck as well!

Re: Buying enclosed Trailer It seems to me that tying up that much money in an enclosed trailer for occasional use may not be a good idea. Is it possible to rent them?

Re: Buying enclosed Trailer Quote:
in Southern California but I think they went out of business. I think there is a place in Michigan that rents them. If you are touring or going to car shows or swap meets outside of your comfortable driving soon then an enclosed trailer & tow vehicle is a necessity. Or a good friend that has one … Jim |
